I really liked 7 but as roke has said a million times, every final fantasy thread ends up with 30897428932483 fan-gorillas chanting Sephiroths name.
I am currently enjoying final fantasy 8, i havnt beat it, im on the last disc i think though, i havnt played a game (on a normal basis) for about 2 months.
And it took me about 2 years on and off to finish FF7 becuase i had to start over twice, and i'd quit playing every couple weeks, and start again. But the game time o' meter, says i've only played like 55 hours. and thats mostly because i got KOTR, and had to raise a bitchin gold chocobo.

well, i guess it's what a person enjoys more in a story: fist fights, bawling, or just plain freaky shit. i'd imagine that most people here would enjoy either FF7, FF8, Lunar (I or II), or perhaps Xenogears simply because of their obvious anime origins. i'd probably say Zone of the Enders as well, but that was mostly an action game with simple wacks at a love story to accompany. i think we'll have to wait for ZoE2 to get anything out of that series.
i must say that they (game's love stories) all follow the same inane plotlines though. the final fantasy series really took a turn for the worst after 8 (even though 9 was the best in my opinion), and really hasn't quite stopped 'teh suck'.
other than those repetative nit-picks, i highly recommend Silent Hill 2 if you're looking for a dark love story. i haven't played a game that focuses so deeply on the mindset of love. lunar was a great happy-happy-go-go story in contrast, and a decent story to coincide. kingdom hearts was kind of scary in it's portrail of disney characters amongst the ff characters, but all in all it was a nice story (and a damn good music video at the ending).

FF VIII had very good visuals...but the story was 2 pounds of donkey ass.
It's probably one of the worst FF's out there. I can't help but feel though, after playing FF IX, that all I could say was...yeah....so?
FF X was better than VIII pretty much the same as IX...no where near as good as VII.
