Yep, IL-2 Sturmovik and Forgotten Battles, it's sequel/addon. The latter is a standalone game, but has most of the features of IL-2, albeit with some major improvements.
Definitely the best WWII sim title on the market, if you got the juice to run it. It really runs fairly decently on my machine - Athlon 1800+, 512MB DDR, 128MB GF4 Ti4200 (still gets choppy in big battle sometimes though).
As for the Brewsters - these are an official part of the game now. You can fly a Finnish campaign there now, with the Brewster in the early war and BF-109G in the later war.

The Birds are using humanity in order to throw something terrifying at this green pig. And then what happens to us all later, that’s simply not important to them…

Hehe, yep, that's the one. Very nicely modeled, it's gonna be flyable in a little while.
Interesting - the Finnish front in WWII has to be one of the only places where planes of the same type (that were not captured) battled on two different sides - both Finns and Russians had Hurricanes on that front, at least as I've read...

btw, Curtiss hawk had a 12.6:1 ratio. Actually Finns did not use Hurricanes that much. In total they had 19 (three captured) but lack of spare parts and other problems prevented their use and Finns only flew few sorties. Comparing to Curtiss Hawk, Hurricanes only shot down 5 aircraft (and shared one kill) and two were lost in combat.Otohiko wrote:Hehe, yep, that's the one. Otherwise you are right, though the amount of captured crafts was quite small compared to main fighters (around 20 polikarpovs, few LAGGs among others). Actually Finns probably had a greater amount of captured/bought from germany bombers (among them 5/6 Ilyshuin DB-3M and 8/16 Tupolev SB-2s) I'll see if I can find a complete list of aircraft.

No. Actually russians set up so called 'terijoen hallitus', led by communist Otto-Ville kuusinen who was supposed to lead Finland after soviet forces had made a 'parade march' to Helsinki. Even Finnish communist despised them (Stalin had hoped they would start a revolution) and as history shows, took part in finnish defence.Mroni wrote:Those are some nice looking planes. I've been reading a book about the fall of berlin in 1945 it's really interesting. The Finns were led by a puppet goverment set up by the nazis right?
Certainly finnish government had sympathy for germans because of aid the 'whites' received during civil war but was quite democratic at the time. (After a century of russian occupation, it was clear that Finns were pretty suspicious of anything even remotely russian). Mannerheim* even said 'we don't have any jews in military, only soldiers' when Hitler asked why are jews allowed to serve in your military and that was the end of that. Hitler would have wanted that Finns round up jews and send them to germany for extermination.
*As nice historical 'what-if', a russian documentary examined what would have happened if Mannerheim had gone and helped Tzar during russian revolution and prevented the fall of St. Petersburg. Lenin (and Stalin) would never have got to power, nor would have Hitler managed to exploit fear of communism during his rise to power. The whole WWII might have been avoided. Documentary was made for 300th anniversary of St. Petersburg and was pretty interesting, expect it had some bad russian actor playing Mannerheim......
I'm still Hoping Renny Harlin never gets funding for his 'Mannerheim' movie......

I still keep thinking that it was more the Tzar's and the old regime's fault that the revolution took place... it really was a bad regime. Though I suppose it could save some trouble in the future.
As for a book on the fall of Berlin - I'd like that myself!
