US Military Draft

Well, I'm in a unique position to comment on this one... In my opinion, the draft Should be reinstated as it would act as an effective control mechanism against misuse of American troops. See in the old days, when there was a draft, there was perhaps one, maybe two wars per Generation, usually only in the event of a real or perceived national emergency.
Since my joining the Army eight years ago, there have been five or six major long-term operations(Not counting the Phillipeans, Southeast Asia, Africa or the other little scraps in which we've sent fewer then 5,000 soldiers) that are not called war but differ little in practice from the wars of early this century and previous centuries(especially the Siege wars of the Middle Ages).
When soldiers complain about having to spend a good portion of their lives overseas in hazardous service to their country, their complaints are almost guaranteed to be met with replies of 'They knew what they were getting into when they signed up' and other apathetic nonsense, often tempered with some bs line about how they're all heroes, just for wearing the uniform. But the fact is, that no, that's not what they were getting into when they signed up, they were not getting into the military to serve on three different continents in as many years for some vague goal as stabilization or peacekeeping, they were getting into the military to serve in direct defense of our nation and our constitution and our way of life, not to risk their lives putting a temporary hold on some small third world nation's fifty or hundreds year old civil war.
Comparisons are made with soldiers in World War 2 and Korea, calling today's soldiers weak and a bunch of whiners. The problem and the main difference, however, was that once Soldiers returned stateside from WW2 and Korea, there was a 90% certainty that they would *not* be going back out six months later for a new conflict. Why? Because they were draftees. Because they didn't sign up for that stuff, but they stepped to the plate when their country required it of them. Because the American people wouldn't allow the government to subject their sons to one horror after another for the sake of minor Political, financial or personal interests, simply because 'They knew what they were getting into when they signed up'.

All I know, is that if the draft ever does get put into effect before I'm too old for it, I can't do it cause I'm too fat. 260 pounds. The max weight limit for the Army is 195, one of my friends has to lose over 30 pounds, so....
No military for me anyways :-p

they don't, but then you don't know a thing about woman in Saudi Arabia. you probably have no clue the horrors they have to go through. one example, girls as young as 13-14 are married off to men 3-4 times their age. these girls, often become teh victims of rape, or if they refuse, they are drowned, stoned, or killed some other manner. i think that much you've already known about women in SA.TheRealNeoHentaiMaster wrote:HAHAAHAHAHAHHAHAHA.......no....See, not to be insulting or anything, but this is an interesting show of ignorance. You think all women act like they do in the US, or other developed nations?Lyrs wrote: Give a third of the women in Saudi Arabia guns and some training and Saudi Arabia will become a democracy overnight.
futhermore, the woman in SA are becoming more educated, and wordly, and even though it's small, if Iraq can become a shelter for woman's freedom in the Middle-east, you can bet that woman will play a much greater role in the role of that region.
also, don't go around saying the word ignorance, when you happen to think someone's ignorant. no matter how smart you think you are TRNHM, you aren't omniscent.
i really could care less if i'm your friend. your patriarchial tone just makes you sound like you think you are superior to everyone else.Differences in culture go a long way my friend.

Ya, when i graduated high school I wanted to be a friggin fighter pilot.
When I walked into their evil secret recruiting headquarters I instantly got permanently banned from their secretive and crazy rituals they perform in there to get more like me to join.
I wear contacts, I'm Over the 6 foot cutoff(for fighter pilots-must be compensating for something), I'm colorblind and I was once WRONGLY DIAGNOSED with asthma one time when I was 7. Yeh, the FEDS look that stuff up on ya from any previous records.
Get this though, I got 2 more recruiting propaganda letters from them after this! So I called the Office of the Surgeon General of the Air Force(guy who banned me from joining) and Said, "Look, you had the nerv to Permanently Disqualify me, so the least you could do is stop sending me your BS about joining your group. If ya don't, I will take you to court for emotional trauma." This worked quite well.
So yeh, no worrying about that for me. Draft is way easy to avoid. Canada AND Mexico border us. I mean, imagine if you lived in Great Britain, a friggin island to swim off. Also, just say you used to have asthma and they freak out.
Good thing though, I wouldn't be moving Japan in november if I had been a hippy pilot.
