US Military Draft

I highly doubt I'd wet myself in combat. Both sides of my family lines are filled with at least 26 Revolutionary War vets. Even in the worst situations I've been in, I've always stayed level-headed, and solved the problem by myself.
The only reason I didn't enlist, is the fact I hate crowds to the extent even walking down the street pisses me off. I can't stand dealing with more than 4 people at a time, let alone living with them. I guess applying for The Real World is also out of the question (damn, I wanted to shoot the hippies!).
As for the AR-10, Armalite, along with a few other manufacturers, have been producing an improved version of the original AR-10 for at least 20 years. Popular Mechanics was probably incorrect, but it would make a lot more sense for the military to switch to the AR-10. The only reason the AR-15 was adopted was the ability for troops to carry more ammo without all the weight. If I were drafted, I know I sure as hell would carry 20 more pounds if I knew the raghead sons of bitches I was shooting at would stay down.

I am not a pilot, however, I have had an incentive flight in one of our two seaters while TDY to Nellis AFB Las Vegas, and yes I did do some cool aerobatics with the pilot. He let me fly and I tried out some cool stuff too.motemote wrote:redfusion, have you ever done a loopity loop in your sweet f-16?
ToeCutter, I have nothing against you, I just don't like it when people state facts about the military without knowing the whole spectrum. I myself have done many things in the Air Force, and I agree with you about the whole crowds thing. But that was only during the six weeks of basic training, after that I have been with one roommate in tech school, and now I have a dorm to myself here at Shaw.
And BTW, I agree about the whole larger caliber round, I didn't like the fact that I had the NATO greentip AP rounds in my M-16/203 issued to me in Saudi Arabia, I myself would prefer to carry a (don't hate me because I'm supporting the French) FAMAS, I got to see a few of those and I like their design.

My family also has had it share of veterans but I abhor the thought of being in situation where I should kill someone I don't even know or facing the situation of myself being killed by aforementioned stranger.Toecutter wrote:I highly doubt I'd wet myself in combat. Please enlighten me. What has been the worst situation you have been in? Household fire, motor accident, death of a relative? Have you been in situation where you are only one who knows CPR?

Lay off the kid. He's misguided, and half the time he doesn't know what the hell he's talkin about. I hate going through natural disasters... Been through hurricanes(stint in MS), tornados(during my stint here in Oklahoma I got to see an F5 and F4 up close and personal), earthquakes(lived in alaska for 18 years, worst one was a 7.2 on the old richter scale, like an 7.8 on the new one), blizzards, forest fires(got within 1/2 mile of my house, and burned down my aunts house), and floods, but the worst thing I've ever had to deal with are seeing people get killed by avalanches. When the snow settles at the bottom of a chute, it packs like dirt, making almost impossible to survive.Simpi wrote:My family also has had it share of veterans but I abhor the thought of being in situation where I should kill someone I don't even know or facing the situation of myself being killed by aforementioned stranger.Toecutter wrote:I highly doubt I'd wet myself in combat. Been in more automobile accidents than anyone should have to, all of them caused by others, and 2 of them should have rightly taken my life. I dont want to sound religious, but there was some sort of guardian angel there when my car blew a tire at 75 mph and rolled 4 times. The roof was crushed down to 18" everywhere but the drivers side front, which was untouched. The angel was there when I got hit by a drunk driver doing 45mph while I was stopped at a red light. I don't remember the three days prior to that, due to a massive concussion. I would have gone right through the windshield without my seatbelt. Wear your seatbelts kids. They've saved my life twice and prevented injury 3 times.

I personally wouldn't like a draft. I think enough people sign up for the Army anyways. When it comes to killing people... well it's either kill or be kill. The only problem I would have is having a kid point a gun at me. If I had to shoot one then I couldn't live with myself. Where I am right now I hear gunshots everyday. From the firing range they built here. When I was at Martyr's Monument I saw an explosion when I went to take a shower. I haven't been in a situation where I have to shoot anyone yet. And I hope it stays that way until I leave this place. Having family here sucks too. The m16 ain't that bad but I prefer a m4 since it's smaller and easier to carry around. My brother has kids throw rocks at him everyday if he goes on patrols or convoys. This place sucks. It's hot.
Oh yeah, I am currently in Baghdad while my bro is in Balad.

I'm usually pretty calm and level headed when it comes to situations like the house catching on fire (that my little brother started) or someone trying to break in. But then when i got in a real situation, like when a SUV hit me, pulled me under and threw me about 20 somethin' feet, i woke up screaming for help. Just because your relatives fought for a cause with their whole heart and soul because they were fighting for freedom doesn't mean you'll stay level headed once you get a bullet lodged in your shoulder. Or when the firing starts period. That's like me saying "Well all the guys on my dad's side of the family were great fry cooks, so therefor i would be a great one if i tried without any prior training". You can't even put up with people while you're at training, so until you're out there like my family in the middle of a foreign country getting shot at and people next to you getting shot at, i suggest you shut your ignorant mouth. You continue your lil gun talk if it makes you feel like you're cool, but you have no idea what real combat is. Numbnuts.

Well I find this whole subject particularly interesting. I just got back from air force basic training on lackland afb. It was fun and hard at the same time. Something my TI told us a day before we left disturbed me. He said that the impression he got from his boss was that the military needs people right now and that's why so many of us graduated. When I graduated I was extremely proud. After hearing that I kind of felt like some of us wouldn't have made it otherwise. Does the military really need people that badly?
I think I actually believe my TI because we only had one person dishonorably discharged and everyone else that was sent away was only for medical reasons.
And about the m16 thing. It was freakin awesome! At first I was a little intimidated since I was 17 and a girl. I felt kinda...well... I guess weak. But after the first couple of rounds I was like hell ya! I came home and I bragged to my mom about it. She was like "That's nice honey, let's hope you never have to really use it"
