I first heard about it at work yesterday during lunch. I honestly haven't had any strong reactions towards it to be perfectly honest. I couldn't really tell you why. I suppose I'm not empathic enough to feel the pain of the families, or the people that were killed. I do know this, though. The grief that their families must be suffering must be tremendous, and I hope that they are able to come to terms with it in their own way and in their own time. Myself, I only feel sympathy, but not empathy. It's a terrible thing, and I can only hope that those involved can handle the situation thrust upon them.

I'm glad the neo nazis of this forum are here and not running our country......like some of the neo nazis that are already running our country.........
It's a shame to see the astronauts die. Only because they, as individuals, strived to make their lives mean something......or that's what we want to believe at least.
I'm not terribly upset. It's sad that they're dead. Like it's sad that 5 times that many people died in car crashes yesterday....and they're not all over the news....cause who really cares about them anyway.
The government had no money invested in them so........

Yes, it was indeed a tragedy. Those were the kids that said "I wanna be a astronaut" and actually did it. Yes, they knew the risks, and were ready to take them.
Yes, alot of ppl die every day, ppl who aren't ready to die, ppl who don't know the risks of what could have killed them, or if the risk was even a choice for them to takes, ppl who didn't say goodbye to their loved ones before they left, or even have a will written. Not to mention those who were too young to ever make a choice.
Does anyone care but those closest to them? If it was on every news channel they would anyone care? Will those astronauts who died in a car accident, disease, etc. be remembered anymore than these 7? Even if they had more accomplished careers, or even shorter lives? Do you even know the names of the 7 or just the event, and can you name those of the previous mission, or any mission in the last few years? (These are rhetorical btw :P I care not for your internet search skills)
Ok I'm going off on a tangent now I'll stop @_@

Fascism comes in many flavors. And when radicals of any color are in charge, people always suffer.Wykith wrote:I'm glad the neo nazis of this forum are here and not running our country........
Kthulhu's political thought for the day ^ .
Anyhow, one of my co-workers was complaining that $270 million was spent on the mission, while schools are closing due to lack of funds. I wanted to say "$270 million is nothing compared to the $100 billion this war is going to cost", but my co-workers...I don't think I fit in...
I'm out...

It is a sad tradgedy that this happened but I do believe that it could be taken out of proportion. Yes seven people died, yes it was a sad incident but no more than all those who die in car accidents. Space travel is inherently dangerous and it takes only the tiniest thing to go wrong for something like this to happen, yet despite this there have been very few accidents, which goes to show that NASA and other space agencies do a very good job when it comes to safety. The worst thing that can come out of this is for the entire space program to be put on hold for months for an investigation that will not turn up anything of any use as this is looking likely to just be a random accident such as loosing a heat protective tile.
