I get a kick out of watching them 'wax' philosophical with questions like 'what is the answer,' and the only question that matters is 'what is it' - it's absolutely hilarious. If Socrates wrote on this he'd ask something at least a little more pointed. Anyone who's taken a philosphy or rhetoric class would know the questions aren't complete and as such are more 'rhetorical' than 'philosophical.' As for this 'answer' they're referring to it's absurd. If the only question that matters is 'what is it,' then there's no point answering it. The question is only important if you admit to the reality that it *is*. And once you do that it doesn't matter *what* it is, only that it is. But watching them turn circles and pretend this 'thoughtful' superiority is really quite entertaining. ^_^

Ok, settle down.

Let's not be silly and pretend that we're dumb just cause we're throwing philosophical little riddles to each other. I'm not saying there's an answer to everything.In fact, I don't believe there's an answer to everything, but I am interested in what one thinks the most important questions are. Not everyday that someone brings up of personal values in a forum.

And if you think I'm just playing 'thoughtful superiority' games, I think I should back down from this here for a bit and just talk to chaoticstormbringer on MSN.

I'm not here to prove anything about myself. If I were trying to, I'd probably use my own words (insetead, half the stuff I'm throwing out there are quotes of a new-age existentialist whom I respect but don't 100% agree with).

All I'm doing is trying to keep alive a discussion I'm interested in, to find out what chaotic has to say, and what I may have to say about it.

The others are coming in and being 'pointed sticks'. Shoganai.

So, go ahead and poke... I'm not here to persuade anyone, just offer ideas and see what others have in return.

In fact, now that I see the general responce, I wonder if this thread should hit the basket... it seems inflammatory by nature, so I'll drop a line to the mods and see if they think it should be canned and the discussion between me and chaotic kept to a personal exchange only...

Well, if it's going to be locked and people are appologizing, I probably should as well. Though, I didn't mean to say the conversation wasn't intelligent - it was, I just have an argument with the idea of philosophy versus rhetoric, and since the conversation's starting point - the question - wasn't defined, it seemed rhetorical. I enjoy brain-teasers myself, but when you leave people out and generalize that the ones who don't know what you're talking about aren't as inteligent, it gets messy. Sorry if I said anything deflamatory, I really did enoy reading the post. And I do get a kick out of the comments - not mocking so much as my twisted humor and my one-too-many courses on the subject being discussed.
