What's your fav FF game and why? + my rant...
I don't think anyone's ever posted this thread before so here goes....
I have a massive love for RPG's and Final Fantasy tops it basically...
Though even with all the newer games they've realeased (I've played up to FFX (or FF10 for those of you with roman numeral issues)), I'd have to say my favourite game is FF3, the one with Terra, Celes, Kain, Locke etc...
I loved it's storyline....and you seemed to actually play/battle more than the newer ones....
I haven't actually beaten FFX yet...just borrowed it from a friend but all you seem to do it listen to the characters talk and go through these annoying scenes all of the time...it wasn't as apparent in FFVII, FFVIII, FFIX but they kind of did the same thing...it's like Final Fantasy has turned into a "let's show off our graphics instead of making a cool game" (kinda thing)...not to mention the game is getting easier and easier...well in my opinion...and i never play with FAQ's...
I find Final Fantasy Tactics addictive...but it doesn't cut it as well as Ogre Battle...Anyone played that before...
Later peoples...

Kain was in the U.S Final Fantasy II. You must be talking about Edgar.
Anyways, so far my favorite is Final Fantasy VI. The quality was very impressive for SNES's time.

To me, that's easy. Final Fantasy VII for the PlayStation.
Why that one? Put simply, FFVII's the first RPG I ever played. Before that, I wasn't that heavy on video gaming to begin with. Although I can date my gaming experiences back to a friend's Atari 2600, I missed out on Nintendo, Genesis, and Super Nintendo. Hell, before I played FFVII, the biggest game I had done was Tomb Raider!
Now, RPGs are the biggest part of my gaming library; fighting games are currently second (can't WAIT for Soul Calibur II). As for Final Fantasy -- if they brought it out on a Sony system here in the US, I got it. The only game currently missing is Final Fantasy III -- the REAL FFIII, not FFVI (got that).
To top things off, FFVII eventually led me back to anime. Trying to find a copy of the Original Soundtrack is how I found a store that focused not just on video games, but also anime.

Okaaay... so you don't like the direction the series has gone. Then, like, play another game.
I'm not seeing the crisis here. Oh well.
Out of the FFs, my favorite is Tactics, followed by 7, 6, and 9 - I haven't tried 10 yet, but I'll probably get a PS2 for Christmas. I don't mind cinematics as long as they still have a good story to have cinematics about, or, failing that, really addictive gameplay (so far, only Tactics has really struck me as having gameplay that is fun all by itself).
Overall, though, I like the variety in non-FF RPGs. Suikoden is a favorite, as is Lunar, and Valkyrie Profile. Also liked Star Ocean 2 for all its loopy little bells and whistles, although the story was very thin.
