Need a new player program for MP3s and video files.

Post by Chaos Angel » Sun Sep 14, 2003 10:42 pm

I believe WMP may be causing me problems, so I am going to try deleting it in the hopes that my computer will stop freezing up. However, Winamp does not seem to like playing XviD videos (it messes up the color all to hell). So, does anyone have any recommendations for a free program that can play MP3s and video files reliably?

Winamp3 is a viable alternative.

Stoic already mention Winamp, so I'd assume that's Winamp3, being the only version playing videos at this time. Great vocabulaire, Stoic, but sometimes...

Anyways, I'd try Zoom Player

If it's a potential hardware or system issue, though, don't give up on WMP: update to 9 Series, install necessary software such as codecs, quit all other apps and give WMP a higher thread priority. This usually fixes it.

If it occures during playback... ooh that sucks. I have those all the time... no matter if I'm using Zoom or WMP.

I use Winamp 2 series player for playing my audio files.

For video files, Media Player Classic is second to none. http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/guli ... p?download

Why Assume that's Winamp3? I said Winamp3... But I digress.

Here is a link to Zoom Player:

Winamp 2 for audio, Zoom for video. Although if you wanted to, you could use them interchangeably.

And, of course, if either of them fails - there's always WM Classic...

Use my RealTwo player, which comes with Windows .NET Gundam... I wrote it! But it's not even a real player! All it is is reskinned WMP!

Wait, you're saying, why can't I just download the skin and DirectShow filters for realmedia myself?
Well, haven't you notice the install is a bit large?
Indeed - I give you a FREE virus and trojan as well: what a sweet deal!
