Anime Music Video Documentary
Hey all,
This Winter quarter I will be in a film class that I have to do a documentary in. From the title of this post you can guess what it will be about. I want this to be win best documentary at my college, and I will be submitting it to several other student film festivals around the nation. Not only do I think this will help get the AMV word out, but I also feel that this is something that I want to do more than anything (Besides make more videos )
I will be e-mailing forms to fill out to anyone who is interested...
Just send me a "I want to be a part of this" email and I will send the form in a reply.
I really hope to make the most of this, and that I'm able to get participants. NO ONE is denied the right to fill out a form, but no offense if your not in my deemed driving distance you might not be getting a filmed interview...BUT that doesn't mean that you still can't be interviewed on the phone or online in a chat or something...
I am praying for applications...

As a fellow film student I would like to know couple of things:
- What kind of message/statement are you planning to bring forward with this documentary?
- What kind of approach (form/style) do you plan to use.
Also. If you are planning to send this for film festivals, you must be aware of copyrights. So using footage/music won't be that easy or cheap. Usually the powers that be recognise the fact that students don't have that much money, but they will still require some sort of compensation.

Copyright Information
I do plan on asking you what music/artist/anime you have used for your video IF I plan on showing the video or part in the documentary, so I can include all of the necessary information at the end. Copyright information would only be required if I sent it out to festivals, my school doesn't require it, so when you give me the info I will seek out all of the necessary information for a safe representation of the clip. So that will be the last thing I do, and I could just drop it on the end as well as include supered text while I show the clip. I do plan on talking to the festival heads about my documentary before hand to see if there would be a problem, and if yes, a way to fix it.
As for the ideas, what I really want to push is are the interviews with the creators themselves. Like why you got into it or what is your passion behind the videos you make. Maybe have you talk about your videos, like what does the video mean to you or does the music have meaning to you.
As for the style of the documentary, I try not to stick to any particular style; i.e. Behind the music. I do try to find an original way to do something but what I usually find out is it's all been done before. All I can say is I plan on making very attention grabbing, maybe through editing or through content, and I'd like it to be fast and entertaining. What usually happens with my projects is, I just do them and worry about if it's any particular style later. I shoot what I see in my head or as close to that as I can get...

Re: Copyright Information
That's what I meant with copyright. While it stays as school project, copyrights can go to hell, but with festivals it's another thingSlide wrote:Copyright information would only be required if I sent it out to festivals, my school doesn't require it, so when you give me the info I will seek out all of the necessary information for a safe representation of the clip.

Anyway, I don't what requirements you have for your documentary (how long, what kind of non-original material you can use and how much time do you have to film it) so I'm not gonna comment anything at this time.
Anyway, good luck.

Re: Copyright Information
I realized I should have put this info in the first post but I forgot about it, hehe, and it's probably one of the more important parts.Simpi wrote: Anyway, I don't what requirements you have for your documentary (how long, what kind of non-original material you can use and how much time do you have to film it) so I'm not gonna comment anything at this time.
It can be as long as I want, but for my school's contest it must not be longer then 10 minutes, so I'll just edit it down. I believe I'll keep it between 20-30 minutes long unless I really get into it, which might happen.
As for material I can use, I have 100% creative freedom with my material, which is pretty nice if you ask me. So I can use anything I want to make this documentary.
As for the deadline for this, I have a somewhere between 3-4 months to finish this project...so lots of time on my side.
I hope that helps anyone that was thinking about joining but still had questions...if not just email me

I can answer questions through PM if you want to, but I don't think I can contribute much.Slide wrote:Since my Fall quarter is ending in about 2 weeks, I realize that my opertune time to start filming interviews would be during my break.
