What am I missing?
Hello, I was wondering if someone could help me determine why I can't play certain videos. To begin with, I have a solid machine with an X800 and the latest version of Quicktime. The videos in question are all 264 files giving me a variety of troubles. They are all award winners that I'd really like the chance to watch without issues.
[Koop]'s Skittles video plays very jerkily and freezes up whenever I try to play it.
[AuN - AMV] Enoz feat. S.O.S Brigade - Forever will not play any of the video, but the audio is fine. I'm guessing this is a codec in particular I'm missing but the community codec didn't clear it up.
Other videos give me Error 37 bad filename or volume name, for instance [Decoy]-Bleach_Technique_Beat-_-Curve-_-Chinese-_-Burn-[h264], AND breathing 640x368 official x264 2000kbps 2pass nero aac 128kbps 44.1k, both give me that error and others give me an "Error 50 - unknown error".
I have tried to fix these issues using the community resources, so I appologize if the question has already been asked, but I can't seem to get these to work. All the files in question are being played with Quicktime. Thank you in advance for any help or links you can provide.

Yay u have my vid xDbreathing 640x368 official x264 2000kbps 2pass nero aac 128kbps 44.1k
Usually most videos have alternative .avi encodes (i'm at least sure for BTB, mine and Skittles), but you deffinately should be able to playback those .mp4s too. Make sure you haven't messed up some decoders. I personally use K-lite/CCCP , play files in Media Player Classic and prefer Quick Time Alternative for specific quick time files. But if you have any trouble the VLC player should be able to playback those, since the codecs it needs are integrated into it

There is. I have it on my mac. Although other media players that work fine on it are Xine and MPlayer, both of which I adore from my linux days.JaddziaDax wrote:http://www.animemusicvideos.org/phpBB/v ... hp?t=80714

I would be less concerned with player and more concerned with how much ram you are running. Anything less than 1GB and your mac will have issues with near HD content (like skittles). Final Cut Pro won't even let you open it with less ram.

If you're on an OLD Mac, like me, I agree that filesize might be overwhelming your computer.
Try converting the downloaded file to a smaller version with a program like iSquint or something. You'll lose a lot of quality, but at least be able to watch it.
Also, if you've been playing several vdeos in a row before having trouble, it sometimes helps to quit Quicktime and restart it.
Can't help much more, since I'm on dial-up, and do most of my AMV watching at work (AFTER work, to clarify) on the nice, modern Windows machine with the T-1 line....

What with Cthulhu449 mentioning CCCP (or rather community codec), I assume Windows is being used, in which case I would suggest one of three things:
1) Install CoreAVC, FFDShow and Haali's splitter (CoreAVC is fast H.264 decoding but not free)
2) Install FFDShow and Haali's splitter (FFDShow can be set to decode H.264
3) Download CCCP and install that (includes preconfigured FFDShow and Haali's splitter)
Remember to remove any existing FFDShows because it might conflict, for example old versions of the AMVapp used to install an old FFDShow, so it should be removed, reboot and then install whatever you want.

7-zip // x264 (Sharktooth's builds) // XviD (Koepi's builds) // MP4box (celtic_druid's builds) // Firefox // CCCP

What Zero1 said. I prefer mplayer classic over VLC, but it comes down to your preference for player.Zero1 wrote:What with Cthulhu449 mentioning CCCP (or rather community codec), I assume Windows is being used, in which case I would suggest one of three things:

I miss the version that looked like a stacked panasonic or JVC receiver though.
