I'm gonna go purchase 5 cm/s and make a video with it for every slow song in my entire video game music collection.

@Bauzi's last statement - It's best to not really care in that case. Hell, i did the whole Azumanga thing way after it jumped the shark, same with Bleach, and now i'm making a Lucky Star vid that won't see the light of day for another year. The trick is to do unique things with them. There's something to be said for just using the anime as a medium to do something you want to do.

Talking in 3rd person should be an immediate red flag on trolling. Req sees this. Req knows this.servo101010 wrote:So Servo was exploring the Announcement thread today
And if everyone says to "make videos for yourself," why do you all get so fucking uppity about the same scenes getting used all the time and go off on these bullshit tangents about originality?

Because if you made a video for yourself then it'd just stay on your hard drive and never be uploaded. Distributing is for the epenis.requiett wrote:And if everyone says to "make videos for yourself," why do you all get so fucking uppity about the same scenes getting used all the time and go off on these bullshit tangents about originality?

Disclaimer: I am a rather bitter fan who tends to dislike most of the "popular" anime, especially Naruto and Inuyasha. I am not afraid to openly insult bot the anime, and the mostly terrible videos made with them. I will allow that there are some good video suing those shows as footage, just as there are some horrendous videos using obscure anime as footage. The difference being that most people who are into AMVs and obscure anime are usually intelligent enough to make a good video.
It makes me sad to see Naruto being the top.. My opinion of that anime is well.. Something I wouldn't want to say in front of anyone who even remotely enjoyed that show. I will admit to having watched and enjoyed DBZ, but after watching about 3 DBZ AMVs way back when I used kazaa, I was already tired of them. Inuyasha was cool to begin with, but it just wouldn't end...
While I can see that these shows have a lot of potential for different styles, unless something is absolutely outrageous and completely unique, I'm never going to watch a video made with those ever again. There are just too many videos that use the same scenes, or are generally crap. I mean, the editing quality in the vast majority of those videos is crap, because almost every one of those videos was inspired by "ZOMG, Naruto pwns, AMVz are koo. I'ma make one!!!112oneone7".
As much as you people say that AMVs are made for yourself, anyone who shares their AMV is inviting criticism, and I'm not going to be easy on them. Even though I'm not an editor, I think I examine AMVs the same way an editor (or most dedicated long time viewers) would. If the editing is crap, I won't like it, no matter how good the idea was. Which means that most of those videos that are causing Naruto, DBZ and Inuyasha to be the most over-used anime fail on 2 levels, instead of one.
To sum things up: I'm pretty sick of popular anime, and the majority of AMVs people make with them, so if I'm ever going to watch something with Naruto, DBZ, or Inuyasha in it, it damn well better be a good AMV.

You won't know until you watch the video, though there are certain things one can look for when judging whether or not to give it a try. If someone asked me to take a look at theirs though, and if I could tell before watching it that it was going to be bad, I'll still watch it.bobbias wrote:so if I'm ever going to watch something with Naruto, DBZ, or Inuyasha in it, it damn well better be a good AMV.
The risk of watching AMVs is that you might waste your time, so I try to be careful and not do that.

Curse you, servo!
You done it again >.>
Any music video that uses anime is overated
Geeze people...this stuff has been done for over 20 years!
You would think people would try to do something new for a change...
After seeing over 1000, they all starting to look the same.
Its always the same big eyes and colorful hair...

Pie Row Maniac:
See, that's the catch, I don't watch AMVs using those because there are so many terrible edited videos that unless I hear about a video being good, through the board, or a friend, I'll watch it, but I'm not going to bother sifting through hundreds of crap video to find the one good one.
If someone asked me to watch their video, I would, no matter what skill they have. I would then give them some feedback. But a good portion of the AMVs out there aren't made for anyone but the editor themself, and shouldn't even be distributed. They just clutter things up and make the overused anime that much harder to find a good video in.

That's taking things too far. If you're tired of seeing anime, then go someplace else. My points were that because of the huge fanbase, and the availability of footage, those shows are so over-used by crappy editors who are only making an AMV for themselves that I'm not even going to bother downloading a video unless I've heard something about it first, or have been personally asked to download it.

I blame the person for watching the anime with his favorite panty shot scene 76.3 times before he viewed my video.servo101010 wrote:And everytime I watch a 5cm PS vid, I always expect the "adults crossing the rail-road tracks" scene. How are you going to convince me to like your 5cm PS vid if I seen 50 of them?
