Shouldn't that be when you turn 20?Pie Row Maniac wrote:When I turn 30, the red crystal in my hand will begin flashing and Premiere will suddenly uninstall itself from my computer.
I don't think I'll ever feel too old to edit. Too old to deal with the (increasingly younger, or at least younger seeming/acting) kids at cons? That's another story. But yeah- as long as I'm still watching anime (doubt that will happen) and listening to music (not happening unless I lose my hearing), I'll still be thinking up video ideas. And if I've got the time, still trying to turn them into reality.

No... kids just don't know squat about history anymore or care about anything not fed to them on youtube or their tv screen.godix wrote:Oh, one thing that definately made me feel like an ancient decrepit old man, the first time I talked to someone who was young enough they couldn't remember a time when Nirvana was the in thing. About a year ago someone else made me feel old by pointing out that they were too young to remember 9/11 all that well. Both times were definite 'I need to quit this shit and find someone my own age to play with' moments.
I know because I tutor for political science and as so much of Merican foreign policy has a base in the Cold War, I find myself teaching the historical background more than anything else so it makes sense. It is sad to see their blank faces as the mention of any number of events in recent American History. They cover from Revolutionary War up to WWII at best. (those who paid attention in class)
I confuse them with my age as I am 25 and thus CAN remember 9/11 and the Berlin Wall since apparently I don't look I am more than half a decade older than them.
Back on topic:
I really do not feel old in the amv community. If you look at all the youtube creators, then the age drops a bit but here there happens to be large number of people who are in my age group and older. So I have yet to feel old in that particular hobby.
I am made to feel a lot older at school where I have to play mommy or big sister to most of my friends. And they often simply gape at my dvd collection.

By the time I go to my next con I will be 30!! (OMG) I dont feel bad making AMV's or watching Anime at all however becasue I feel like Im catching up from what I missed out on years ago. I grew up watching anime classics like Fist of the North Star, ninja Scroll, and Tekkaman, but I never had the money or resources like I have now to afford to go to cons and shows. I didnt realy get into making AMV's until last year because I didnt have a computer for a long time...(my old on broke and I didnt have cash to fix it) Plus If you see me you would probably never guess that Im almost the big 30..maybe 25 or so lol....but as far as being to old? I dont think your ever to old to enjpy your hobby..or to pick up new ones for that matter...plus when it comes to making AMV's there is still a level of skill that goes into it so age isnt as big a factor as know how to use your editing software and having good taste in shows and music
Plus Im a kid at heart anyway...the last 2 cons I went to I cosplayed at lol...my girlfriend kind of hated it but oh well lol

I'm 18 and will stop editing if it gets illegal or if don't want to do it anymoar.
I considered stepping out of the community as soon as i've won 10 contests and be 3 times the video of the year at viewers choice award.
I think it depends on the person though, it is not normal for an over 20 year old to behave like a noob. AMV's are made for everybody and so can be made from everybody.

The honky-tonk called a stranger
The stranger couldn't pay the bill
Made a stand, raised his hand
Sang a song, no time to kill
Pray 4 peace! Not an AMV, something you can do to help!

I have returned here because I spotted a link to my podcast's blog site from this thread.
I haven't entirely stepped away from AMVs, although the last thing I did was participate in the AMV contest and the AMV Wars Battle Royale back in 2007.
I just have next to no time to spend editing anything other than what I do for Anime Hell (which is not AMV Hell--someone always asks). My podcast and the horses that Dr. Mrs. Lather and I own eat up just about all the free time I have.
I'd love to get to AWA sometime in the future. Y'know what? Start bugging the AMV programming track folks about me. I know many of the AWA "Old Guard" staff and have something approximating a standing invite from Stan Dahlin.

Although I haven't actually ahem made an AMV (working on one), I don't really worry about something like this. If I get bored, I'll stop making them. I don't worry about when that will happen, it will happen eventually I know, but worrying about it is pointless.
