if I had more time (and a machine that worked...) I'd make an amv summing up this thread to this song
I'd always been on the side of this issue that says we are getting WAY too particular with our amvs since like 2006. Nice to see your 'crossing over' Castor lol. That's not too say I don't enjoy beat synch masterpeices as well, it's just both can be considered good instead of just one neh??
Yeah I'm a hippie.

Nobody knows, but Knowname can possibly guess *.*Kionon wrote:Sephiroth wrote:the fact that i actually was able ot edit anything with adobe premeir 5.1 crashing every 3 edits and only letting me import one video source and a whole 10 gigs of hard drive space.
Or even better yet the video that's on vhs which was edited using a vcr and camera while the song for it is being played on a separate device for timing purposes.
Been thinking long and hard about the way vids used to be and what makes older videos stand out is that everything isn't perfectly synced up to every beat.
Nobody knows the trouble we've seen...
I would never want to go back to deck editing. Nosiree.
My first video was made in Virtual Dub... it's not deck editing, but other than having to hook everything up and being able to rip DVDs and use lossless compression... BUT it's basically the same in it's linearity, you still have to use a stopwatch and basically guess at the sync. I doubt if I'd do as good a job with it now as I did back than... man it sure was fun (ofc the enthusiasm of my first amv got me through it, but) though. Sadly I lost the video, but other than the editing with xvids thing it was pretty good and synched pretty decently. At least on par to some of the better shack videos...

Human nature is to improve on itself however if you feel this way, and since you are one of my favorite editors and I dont want too see you stop making videos for lack of 'fun' in the hobby then I would recommend,
I had more 'fun' editing with WMM because I knew while editing there was a certain point that the video got to be 'as good as it could get' (in my eyes at least) so I think working on a weekend project, with out stressing over every beat, each second being immersed in perfection will do you good and remind you why you chose this hobby in the first place.
Use WMM...Castor Troy wrote:Seeing the bad quality, small resolution, very long scenes set to the verses, orphan frames, mistimed beats, etc brought back a pretty cool nostalgic feeling that I haven't felt in a while.
Only edit with Kenshin ovas.Castor Troy wrote: I can't truly go back to those days, but the yearning is still there. For me, it's extremely hard to put down a clip in the timeline over a fast drumroll part of the song and *not* strobe it.

Maybe we should have the "WMM Project" or "WMM Challenge" to get us all back into the spirit of old school editing...BurningLeaves wrote:Use WMM...Castor Troy wrote:Seeing the bad quality, small resolution, very long scenes set to the verses, orphan frames, mistimed beats, etc brought back a pretty cool nostalgic feeling that I haven't felt in a while.

Ok - so I gave this all a bit of thought. These bawwing threads that pop up once every 2 or 3 weeks all seem to be focused around 2 things - burnout, and misunderstanding scope. In a nut-shell a small group of visible people are beginning to feel like the standards they're being held to are too high and they're just burnt out. In reality the group of people holding them to any standard higher than what you see on youtube is a very small one and all the bawwing and writing of threads on how to get one's grove back are not going to change the way that small group (we're talking like 100 people here, tops) thinks. If you can't handle ignoring it, i'd honestly suggest taking a break or, god forbid, retiring if you need to. I suppose you could also make a proxy account or not upload or something if you want to do stuff and not be held to the standard of your name (and that's what most of this really comes down to- upholding one's image).

Hmm... it seems to be a common enough notion that most people's first videos envoke this sort of response from their creator. Begs the question of how far have people improved since their first video to have such a negative reaction to their earlier creations, which in all likelihood, they probably were quite proud and happy of when it first appeared.pimpag wrote:One i tried to make, makes me feel like a complete lowlife with no hope rofl
Also makes me wonder how many people here keep hidden their old videos like me.
