So the idea randomly came to mind when I came across the song "How To Save a Life" by The Fray in a forgotten playlist. I thought it would be a perfect for a dramatic amv, but I could only think of a few animes that were on my hard drive that would work with this such as Bleach, Gurren Lagann, Samurai X, and Full Metal Alchemist.
I'm just looking for some other animes that would work with this theme.

If I were you I'd be looking at Gundam Seed/Gundam Seed Destiny. There's one or two amvs out there that use the song, but for some reason they all focus on the main character, Kira, and his dead ex-girlfriend Flay, which totally misses the point of the song. The song isn't necessarily about a dead friend, it's about having a friend who was making bad choices and being unable to stop them or turn them around, thus losing the friendship "somewhere along in the bitterness." Pretty much sums up the relationship between Kira and Athrun or Athrun and Shinn, and works to a degree with Athrun and Cagalli, Shinn and Stella, Captain Gladys and the Chairman, Neo Roanoke/La Flaga and Captain Ramius, and even (though to a lesser degree), Rey and the Chairman on the one hand, and Le Creuset on the other. If you haven't seen the show, all of the above are friendships or romantic relationships that were destroyed or warped by the war and can never be completely put back together. I hope this helps.

Fruits Basket (aka Furuba) would be perfect for that song. It has a quite a few sad or sentimental scenes, and most of the characters have lost someone close to them. Good luck!
