Hell I'm 17 (in a few days) and have the mental age of a 17 year old!( ) I think the age crap is all more or less all a mental thing!Kionon wrote:Truth.outlawed wrote:While the age and monetary requirements to actually do anything notable back then were becoming more accessible they were still well beyond your average 13 year old.
This site was started by adults (legally, at least) for adults. Some teens were certainly active, but they weren't that young. I think for teens that were, you'd be looking at seventeen year olds as the least. Maybe a few sixteen year olds. Younger than that and the equipment just wasn't in the hands of any really but college students and older.
I was 17. I was also a freshman in college.
your only young as ya feel right?
We came we saw...we attempted to kick ass, but in the end we failed, and yes, I'm still in pain.

Re: Average age on the org.... does it matter?
To a degree, but that wasn't the point I was making there. I was adding onto what Outlawed had said about when we were new to editing. I had access to the equipment and to broadband because I was in college. At the time, it would have been very hard, although not impossible, for a high school student living at home to have had resources to make decent AMVs. I hosted my own own videos in 2001 because I was running an apache server via debian through the school's network. Broadband was so new, I wasn't caught for pretty much an entire year, and when I was, I was simply told "you can't do that, it's abuse of the system, and we're changing the rules to reflect that." I never would have been able to do that as a college student; my parents didn't get broadband until a few years later.Draw it blank wrote:Hell I'm 17 (in a few days) and have the mental age of a 17 year old!( ) I think the age crap is all more or less all a mental thing!

Frack, thought I caught this before it went through, but instead I almost double-posted the same post.
Fix'd.I never would have been able to do that as a high school student; my parents didn't get broadband until a few years later.

I got here when I was pretty young, then left (dail up.. nuff said). Came back, signed up, and 4 years later I turned 20... Well something like that.

Re: Average age on the org.... does it matter?
Let's see. I joined when I was 14, but I'd been downloading vids prior to this by a about year, so let's assume I found the site when I was 13. I'm now 20 and editing more than ever. Does age matter? No. Most of the 'newer generation' start out at a younger age and will likely stay on as early people have. As well as that most of the friends I've made on the org are people older than me (bar a small few), and I've never felt age was an issue in friendship, editing, or anything regarding the org. So, no.

I'm 20 now, and I can't remember when I joined! *checks*
According to my profile, sometime in '04.
Okay that makes me 15 when I started. So yeah. XD
No such thing as too old.
