Ok, I put my site up the other day and all my videos up on it. Then yesterday I get a few e-mails, I start responding, and I get this one

I just watched your Kenshin video and I thought it kicks much ass! I was
wondering what you used to get your source footage, it's incredibly clear.
Can't wait to see more.

So now I'm a bit worried, I mean I have 2 kenshin videos, and he didn't say which one, but I'm assuming its the OVAs which advfilms does, although the other kenshin video is more "kick ass" hehe.

Now I'm sure anyone that works for an anime company likes anime, and probably likes AMVs too, but the fact hes asking about the source footage makes me wonder @_@

A. Just wondering
B. Wondering because the vid also has the 2nd OVA they haven't made yet (I assume they have rights to though) and how/where I got it.
C. Wondering if I got the 1st OVA footage off their DVDs.
D. Wondering about my other kenshin vid.
E. *insert more paranoid scenerios*

I also noticed the email was sent at 1:05 pm so probably was on a lunch break and hopefully not on the clock

Judging from the 'incredibly clear' remark, maybe they are trying to see if you ripped the footage off a dvd from them? If you used all officially released footage, I don't know what the problem would be. Even then, you could have the R2 dvds.

And if they read the forums and the guides, they are well aware we rip dvds

you should watch what you say to him, its illegal to put someones dvd footage on the internet, and he finds out its adv then who knows what they will do?

I've heard (from someone here, I dont remember who) that ripping isn't illegal anymore (not sure how though, it used to be illegal due to circumventing trade secrets). So I guess it couldn't hurt to admit that even if he for some reason is trying to catch you for it.

you could always email him back like "I've noticed you're from adv and am hoping your question is not related to any legal matters that may arise from the ripping of material from your dvd products, however, if that is the case *insert several page-worths of fair-use and other laws protecting your rights*
if he is out to get you, you'll have shown him up. If he's not, his feelings will be hurt
