I'm trying to find a song, in English, that resembles the sound of Yelle or even most j-pop songs.........
Here's a Yelle song "Ce Jeu" (hit f5 to skip the ads)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LoY37T_nv5U
I just can't seem to come up with something that is upbeat and sweet sounding without it being in another language or irritatingly repetitive (like happy hardcore's techno).
Any suggestions?

Well, there's Asobi Seksu. Their song "Thursday" had me thinking initially that the singer Yuki Chikudate was some kind of singer for translated songs in English dubs of anime. In reality, she's just an ethnically Japanese American girl whose musical style has evidently had a very strong Japanese influence on it.

I like her sound, but she/the song is super mello. Her music strikes me as a romance/sentimental or drama/serious entry. Thanks for turning me on to this artist though, I definitely will add it to my music collectionRorschach wrote:Well, there's Asobi Seksu. Hot Hot Heat - Implosionatic.
It may be too repetitive for you, but Google it - there's somewhere you can listen to the whole song and judge for yourself.

Inward Eye "Blind Paranoia" - when you Google this the first listing should be for iLike.com to listen to it full-length and DL a free MP3 (might be one of those lame 'free with signup' deals) maybe a little too Oi? - lyrics:
You hide behind your nervous smile, but you're a wreck inside.
You play it cool, but all the while, something in you died.
You're so paranoid. You're so self-destroyed. Ya-ya-ya you!
You're hearing voices in your head and all the twisted things they said.
They got you hanging from a thread. (You know they're right. They're over your head.)
Your blinding paranoia,
You try to find your mind.
Coldly looking down your nose on everyone you see,
Dressed up in those hipster clothes, you sighing enemy.
You're so paranoid. You're so self-destroyed. Ya-ya-ya now!
Now you're shaking, can't sit still. You can't quit popping all those pills.
And now you're counterfeiting thrills. (You're up. You're down. You're over the hill.)
Your blinding paranoia,
You try to find your mind.
(They're looking for you, now what do you do?)
Your blinding paranoia,
You gotta try to find your mind.
(Get out of the way, you know what we say.)
Left, right, red alert. Stand up. Hit the dirt.
Propaganda in the face, terrorize the human race.
They don't want to let you know. Don't ever tell you there is control.

Yeah, just a bit repetitive, has a really strong punk influence but on the same turn I like the energy it has.CWR wrote:Hot Hot Heat - Implosionatic.

I first watched the live performance on youtube and was mesmerized by their restlessness, lol. But yeah, I can definitely see using this in something (thanks for the lyrics btw). Not sure it's a K-ON kind of sound, but then again I still have to run it by my partnerCWR wrote:Inward Eye "Blind Paranoia" - when you Google this the first listing should be for iLike.com to listen to it full-length and DL a free MP3 (might be one of those lame 'free with signup' deals) maybe a little too Oi? - lyrics:
Thanks for the suggestion! It's nice hearing from other editors, there are too many different artists out there for us not to pool our knowledge together XD
