How to grnerate clean, high quality footage in the age of BD

Post by Koishi-Chan » Thu Mar 17, 2011 10:53 pm

Many years ago, we were treated to the guide gold of VicBond007's DVD guide, which can be found here. Although this guide is still excellent for working with DVDs, it references many tools and applications that are very difficult to find these days, and most of which only run in a 32bit environment. Does anyone know of guide of this caliber which uses more contemporary tools and includes instructions for ripping Blu-Ray content? Or is there one among us who is willing to take on the challenge of compiling such a tome of wisdom? I for one would be extremely grateful.

Read ErMaC & AbsoluteDestiny's Friendly AMV Guides Lovingly Overhauled Largely by Zarxrax

This guide is fairly up-to-date with working in the newer age. Most of the items here will work in 64 bit environments (on windows at least)

Much of the BD stuff has been posted by Misterhatt and Mirkosp in the video forums, but I don't think any specific guide has actually been created from that information for BDs. In my findings on many accounts I don't even have to do much else other then rip the BD to my HD and then just let avisynth handle converting to lossless.

One of the main things I've notcied in the age of editing on 64 bit platforms is to make sure you have 64 bit codecs and ONLY edit with Lossless footage as currently avisynth isn't very stable in 64bit.

Vicbond's guide was bad advice well before your join date. I'm honestly surprised it hasn't been taken down.

You'd be surprised what they've replaced it with T_T

BluRay, HD & Virtual Dub are not new to this board.
.. There used to be a very-very good PDF here which
covered most of VicBond's thinking; not sure where it
went to!
.. It covered EVERYTHING known, at that time! Today,
even THAT is more up-to-date then what is currently
available .. and for a very good reason: New Idea's = New Product Sales. $$$$
( after-all, who care if it takes you 1000 more steps to
accomplish a simple task; as long as it looks good! -- right? )

lets kindly define how to make an AMV:
Get DVD.
Rip It.
Section It.
Merge It.
Compress It.
Upload It.
.. did we leave anything out? What's incomprehensible is anything added
to this sequence of events! Hi-Tech does not equal an AMV; that is art
and has nothing to do with this org .. .. or has the org changed its rules?
