The main issue I'm having is that the only way I know to get video clips is to "Import movie" on existing AMVs downloaded from this site - and they have audio in them which I can't figure out how to detach from the video clip, so adding an audio track to them produces dissonance.
If someone knows of a place to get clips of anime video with no audio, I will get started. Otherwise, maybe I will make a marginally less crappy picture slideshow of random mechs and count that as the fulfillment of my new year's resolution to make an AMV finally. Clearly the technical aspects of doing anything besides WMM drag-and-drop editing are beyond me while I'm still working my night job and doing various other things with my free time. I still don't even know what a codec is, other than "some technical thing I don't understand".
But we don't condone the use of illegally downloaded clips. You'll have to figure that out yourself, talk to someone willing to explain it to you, or get DVDs and use the site's guides.
