My Last AMV: I'm Retiring (This hurts)
It's been a super long and super fun road. Going from AMV Enjoyer to AMV Creator to Abridged VA and back to AMVing. In retrospect, I honestly don't know how my life would have developed without my friends in this community. I owe my thanks to soooooo, so, so, so many people. I miss godix deeply, my brothers: Semisoma and CodeChrono (CodeZTM). Kazemon15 who was always down for one more collaboration. MidnightDevont a very close friend who I regret I don't talk to as much I should anymore. A very HUGE thanks to LittleAtari who helped me start my MEP appreciation and involvement. Sakuraslight for being willing to do what I was too lazy to do (AE Credits).
So many more people I would like to name and thank.
......... This is hard. I don't know what to say, honestly. So, so hard.
Turning 40 and realizing......anyway-- (Edit before submitting: This hurts. I've had to edit this so much and correct and proof this. Finalized at bottom.)
I want to make one last AMV. I guess what I'm trying to say is: After doing this for 20 years it's so hard to let go of a hobby you've loved so much and though you would do forever. This sucks. I'm gonna miss this. SO, SO, truly.
The AMV I want to make is something that I can obviously be happy with but it's not something I think I can make on my own. It's too much. It's essentially going to be my goodbye. I honestly think it should be a MEP. But, I don't want to celebrate myself. Not in the slightest. I want to celebrate what a-m-v.org means to me and SOOOO many other people. I just want help deciding on how to accomplish this. Song choice and anime if not multi-source. I want to celebrate us all as my thank you to this amazing and wonderful community.
Do any of you have any ideas?
(Finalized)
Turning 40 and realizing that I had more fun than I deserved. I've had a rough life. This community helped me through a lot of tough times and I will FOEREVER and EVER be grateful to all those who were a part of my being in this community dare I say family. I had my ups and downs even on here and was scolded and praised. It's hard to say goodbye, but it's something I have to do. I would love for my last parting contribution to this community to be a MEP that involves those who really want to send a message. Thank you.

What about an MEP where people edit with clips from their existing AMVs? Kind of paying respect to the past while creating something new from it.

Everything in your post sounds like you really don't want to retire. So my advice? Don't.

Re: My Last AMV: I'm Retiring (This hurts)
You're right. I don't. But, I feel like it's something I should do. I don't have the time to spend on making AMV's anymore like I used to and feel that I would be better off being just a regular watcher and poster/AMV reviewer. It's not that I don't have the will to edit anymore. Far from it. I'll still be around, just not in an editor capacity anymore. Maybe I can be a judge or something or maybe coordinate other MEPs while not actually editing any part in it. I'm not quite sure honestly. I do know that I still want to be involved in some way.
No, it's not just because I turned 40. I feel like I've had my fun and loved every minute of it. I guess it's me feeling like I need to move on from the editing aspect and maybe take on a more backseat role. I'll still be a part of the community and be around the forums but just not in an editing capacity. That's the best way I can put it.
I actually think that's a fantastic idea. I think that would be something I could definitely get started in the MEP section. Just not sure if people would take to the forum post to sign up or if I would or should recruit through discord. But YES! I Think this would be the most fitting. The more pressing question I would have after that would be which song? Do you think it would be too Cliche to use the song: Celebration? I'll definitely look around at other songs as well. Any other thoughts? Also, good to hear from you again, bud.

I already responded to you in the post above. But I just realized I have the perfect song in my playlist. I think it would fit so well with that concept.
The Greatest Show (Peter Hollins Cover)
Makes even more sense once you see the actual video that goes along with his cover. All the people and fans he got involved. I think it's perfect honestly to go with that theme and idea you suggested. It's such a damn good cover and song. What do you think?

An editor never retires, he/she just takes a rest.
That being said if you want an idea involving what Zarxrax said here's one:

We edited videos back in the king of spayn project using previous AMVs edited it could work for what you have in mind

Instead of retiring, you could just do what I did and enter a soft retirement phase without telling anyone, then several years down the line you are free to come back and just pretend nothing happened.

Re: My Last AMV: I'm Retiring (This hurts)
Hey there Twilight,
I've been on and off editing since 2002. I had a bit of a run from 2002-2007, then was an AMV coordinator from 2007-2014, and came back in 2014-2018.
I haven't made a video in 6 years but I plan on coming back at some point and I'll be turning 40 next month.
Sometimes stuff comes up and you need a bit of a break but you can always come back to make AMVs when you want to. And you can always slow down your pace and slowly work on something even if it takes longer to finish.

Re: My Last AMV: I'm Retiring (This hurts)
I respect your decision to want to retire since you feel like it's the right thing for you to do in your life right now. However, if your honest with yourself and part of you still loves to edit and you know that feeling isn't going to go away, your not really retired.
I felt like I "retired" back in 2010 and for 9 years I didn't feel like I'd ever do AMVs ever again. That changed in 2018 when I went into someone's AMV panel at AWA and that drive just awakened because it gave me a purpose in life as I was going through stuff at the time. Getting back into AMVs really helped me out, and I look at where I'm at today and the fruit from what I've made, the people I've meet in the community, and the people who enjoy my works.
So in that sense I never really "retired", it was just a long hiatus. Maybe that's what you need right now, and that's perfectly fine. Whatever you do, well have the doors open when you come back, because we're not going anywhere.
