Do you guys frown on fansubs?
I am curious if you guys dislike fansubs? I know you hate subtitles being in AMV's (so do i) and i have read the guide for removing subs, but i am still curious about your views on using fansubs
Is that all you got I'll take your best shot!!

To me, fansubs serve a purpose in getting my interest up about a show that has not been released in America, and in some cases it's the only way to get an English version of a show.
But once an American company announces that it plans to release a certain show, fansubs should stop being distributed in deference to the impending American release.
Despite what was said during the State of the Industry panel at Ohayocon, I don't think fansubs' time has passed. While I agree with their saying that almost everything in Japan is licensed for American release but has not yet been announced, they still need the fansub community to drum up interest for shows.

I think they are a good way to see if you like a show before you buy it. Kind of like having a trial version of a new program or game before you actually buy the thing. However, I think that you should just buy the series if you're gonna download and keep the whole thing.
As source footage, well, my philosophy is that I'd rather see a video that is made from fansubs but is well thought out and well realized than a video that has absolutely nothing going for it except a visually lovely image. Nice clean images won't help a video that has no thought behind it.

I disagree with having fansubs used as source material when they include the subtitles.
There are times--very few times--when including a single scene requires a subtitle to add to the whole video (example is a Grave of the Fireflies video where the girl asks why fireflies must die, and it was subtitled.
Having subs popping up randomly because he background image is appropriate to the song is sloppy and lazy, I think. Hell, I knew that using subs wasn't kosher a decade ago, why change now? Two of my videos had to be made with fansubs ("Learning to Fly" and "In so Many Ways"), and I found enough material around the subtitles to still make a good video. It can be done.

I just want to point out the irony of how the same people who don't like subs when they are making AMV's are the same people who hate dubs.
So in other words, one part of the community is waging war on another part of the community because they take their community seriously enough to want to do so. Then they tell the powerless side to get over the loss cause it's just an online community. I'm glad people make so much sense." -- Tab
