B-frames don't really help with most AMVs.

Well when your dealling with a lack of space or bandwidth mongering ever little bit helps.

btw, two pass encoding, another godsend.
and I would suggest buying MP3pro and doing your encodes with a 128 bitrate for the audio and increase or decrease the bitrate as needed. seriously, with my tips you could easily lop off 20 to 30 % off the size of a vid.
So in other words, one part of the community is waging war on another part of the community because they take their community seriously enough to want to do so. Then they tell the powerless side to get over the loss cause it's just an online community. I'm glad people make so much sense." -- Tab

Why not use Lame to code at mp3 quality? It's free and extremely good.

mp3pro sucks, if you want space you can use vorbis (free) at 96kbps and ra (free) at 64kbps. Mp3pro sounds like crap at anything below 96.
In low bitrate scenarios RM wins hands down. You can use a low resolution like 320x240 or 448x336 at bitrates between 384 and 768k for rv9 and get good results. Also in these scenarios filtering does wonders. Slap a C3D and sshq or deen a2d on and you'll get incredible compressibility jumps.

I think you need more space >_>

I can see maybe about 3 AMVs in 100MB of space. Maaaaybe 4. But there really is no other solution. You could probably save a couple megabytes doing filtering, but :\ I don't think it's going to save you from having to get more space. :|

I'm willing to bet you could get about 7 amvs in 100mb using good filtering, a res of 448x336, and rv9

Um... I wasn't talking about you - I was suggesting that tshk wouldn't know what c3d and deen "a2d" were.

So stop being a numpty :p
