The Future of AMVs

Post by Lyrs » Fri Apr 11, 2003 12:15 pm

What will they be like in the future? Will they feature unseen, unheard of effects? What might hamper the developement of amvs in the future?

these are just some questions.

what i think future amvs will be like is better graphics quality and special effects will match hollywood. other things will be full surround sound and sfx's as well.

Well, the only thing that will hamper creation is one's imagination and self-imposed limitations. With technology getting better, many new effects and approaches will be possible. Of course, one could say that the anime is a limitation, but there have already been AMVs where the creator has made original artwork for the video. I don't see a footage problem standing in someone's way. So, in essence, whatever you can think up and are willing to go through with. I wish sometime in the future to make an AMV in 3-D, although it'll take a lot of work. I believe it's possible, though.

All I hope is that future AMVs will still have storylines, as opposed to just being massive heaps of effect work. I don't really care to make predictions.

Inevitably, software technology will develop as fast as hardware technology, and eventually, codecs will become so powerful, and internet connections/space so massive, that full resolution 1024 by 768, and beyond, music videos will become a reality, allowing you to fill your whole desktop with a music video to watch without any loss in quality.

Its bound to happen, sooner or later. Hehe, until then, 320X240 will do me just fine...

Honestly I don't see too many changes coming about other than the number of creators. However I do expect a lot more expiramenting in special effects wether that's for good or bad remains to be seen.

Yes, it is possible to do now, if you want a filesize in excess of 200Mb. What I meant is it will become more feasible once internet hosting space, and internet connection speeds increase beyond what they are currently at. I remember not too long ago you were lucky to get 5Mb when you signed up for a dial-up provider. Nowadays, its more like 25Mb (Still talking dial-up...you get more with broadband signups), depending on the ISP in question.

Also, better codec technology in the future will keep video file sizes getting smaller, and with even better quality.

I've seen the future of AMVs, is' not pretty, while not exactly being a travesty either.
Tainted Donuts an' Trancending Love become the videos everyone tries to copy. Poorly. The end result is 50 pointless an' shoddy crossover vids.
And yes, they're already showing up.
People are giving up EVERYTHING in favor of effects. No more pacing, plot, timing, anything.
While is' not the end of the world, I'm not happy about it.
