How to use Divx as a AMV creator

I wasn't referring to parameter tweaking alone as bullshit. I was referring to the entire process of going from one program to another to another just to export your video after it's been finished. AVIsynth and DVD2AVI are pain in the ass enough prior to the process.
Ask me about my secret stash of videos that can't be found anywhere anymore.

You use the right tool for the job. I do something like this for online distribution:the Black Monarch wrote:I wasn't referring to parameter tweaking alone as bullshit. Cinelerra -> export Quicktime
Quicktime file -> convert to uncompressed AVI via transcode
move file from Linux box to Windows laptop via SecureFX
VirtualDub + AVISynth -> tweaks for best quality/size ratio
VirtualDub -> compress
(Preparing MPEG-2s for conventions and masters is, weirdly enough, far easier )
Is it a long process? Yes, but the final result looks pretty good. I could far more easily do this:
Cinelerra -> export Quicktime
Quicktime -> DivX AVI via transcode
or, even better,
Cinelerra -> MS MPEG-4 AVI
but it just doesn't look as good, nor does it offer me as much control over the process.
Using multiple tools to do a job isn't something that's unheard of, nor is it that much of a pain in the ass. Almost all of this process could easily be automated -- the only part that actually requires any human intervention is the tweakage part.
But I'm crazy; I want to be able to use the best tools available to me for the job that I want to do. Meh.
*shrug*
I edit from MPEG-2 too, it works fine if you have timecodesStoic wrote: I am crazy. I do MPEG2 editing. Everyone tells me I'm stupid, so don't listen to me.

Not really. Considering half of the time involved in that process is me sitting around waiting for renders to complete and multi-gigabyte files to fly across Ethernet, it's actually a pretty lazy process The most difficult parts are the Quicktime -> AVI conversion and the quality tweakage, and I've written scripts to do the former for me.the Black Monarch wrote:You're a masochist, aren't you?trythil wrote: Cinelerra -> export Quicktime

So, yeah, it's really not that hard if you know what you're doing
