Heh, I love the idea of making something to shock people, just have to find my own server first. In the meantime, I *do* have a Haunted Junction amv up:
http://www.animemusicvideos.org/members ... hp?v=17327
which didn't do very well (my sense of humor is wacked). And Inuyasha may be overdone, but I also did the first ever (Yes! I searched all *over*!) yaoi Inuyasha amv:
http://www.animemusicvideos.org/members ... hp?v=16798
which was a lot better timed than any of my early attempts.
It's not that I don't try new things with what I have, keeping the yaoi angle I like, just that the audience isn't big enough. I *know* there are yaoi amvs on here - that's one of the things that first drew me to the org years ago, a nice pleasant shock, I might add, but for sharing with the larger population (and getting constructive pointers), I think I'd need something a little more subtle. I won't ever stop making strange, yaoi amvs, but I was hoping to get ideas that wouldn't repel potential viewers that didn't involve pairings and females I usually detest.

Well,
if you cut out the obvious sexual stuff,
the somewhat subtle sexual stuff,
but kept the PG-13 stuff,
and avoided use of the word yaoi or shonen-ai, (but used it anyways)
then you could make a video that fit in with every other one here.
Really, the way some guys are drawn in anime movies, you can't always tell when they're supposed to be guys. So if you don't tell people what they don't want to hear, they won't see what they don't want to look at.
It's not lying, it's simply withholding information that people don't really need.
Hopefully, allowing you to release a video to a larger audience without resorting to ideas that you don't agree with.
Of course, I still want to see a video using RevCo. It would be hard to top the real video for "Do You Think I'm Sexy" but there's lots of other good songs out there.

Not Linkin Park, if you want revolutionary, try DBZ to Saliva. My newest project - wanted something new and original with dbz, well, I think yaoi is an unexplored angle, des ne? I think my original question here has become obsolete. I wouldn't feel right doing a shonen ai vid without giving the proper warnings, though I can see how it wouldn't be a bad thing considering how many supposedly 'straight' dbz amvs really look more yaoi than anything else - but no warnings mean no yaoi, right...
I'm just going to go about my happy little amv making, and who knows, if I do things that irritate the general public, maybe it will entice them to watch the vids *because* of the warnings. And I don't do anything with explicit sexual content, I think the worst I've gone was a single kiss (no tongue ) that lasted about 3 seconds long. Heck, I'm not even sure if male frontal nudity (shirtless) should be counted the same as females - unless the characters are regularly shirtless I try to edit that sort of content out - that's how careful I am to keep even shonen ai vids PG-13. ^_^ I can be nice as well as bold.

Honestly, the way you say you edit it carefully and avoid anything that would be really offensive, it doesn't sound like there would be any problem. In fact, despite the fact that I (for obvious reasons) don't like shounen ai at all, I think I'll take a look at those vids. At least it sounds like you make these things with real intention, which is less than I could say for some...

*jumps back on the board*
Just a thought: Why do you have to keep out anything that uptight straight boys don't like? I don't like ultraviolence, but do you see me bitching that nobody can make violent videos? Of course not. I just don't watch them if I don't want to see them.
Wow. Imagine that.
*shakes head* I don't see where people get off telling everyone else what they can and cannot make.

I've never heard of those songs, I'll look them up, thanks! I haven't listened to the radio in about five years (not at *all* - complete boycot when my favorite station stopped playing the 80s-90s in favor of new popular crap songs). Half the time I hear something and don't know if it's popular until I do a search here for it - usually it's not. The only time I use over-done songs is when I have a friend ask for a mix of that song and their favorite anime characters - done that about...4 times: Manson, evil LP, and..another I guess people heard of (I'd never heard it before & can't remember which one it was). Half the songs I see in amvs these days I've never heard of, and the ones they talk about in the 'General Music' section I've never heard of. Guess that's half the problem, the old favorites (and hence over-done) are still *my* favorites.
As for shocking people, I love the idea, but I have to follow the rules since I don't have my own hosting service - and blatant videos with 'that' sort of footage would be the most shocking (imagine a yaoi amv with flashes of doujinshi scans or fanart - for non-yaoi it could be interesting, for yaoi it could be deadly). But I haven't figured out yet exactly how far I can stretch the 'sexual nudity' rule - when it comes to guys it's much harder. ^_^ And I still have my modesty (I prefer stories and *ideas* of pairings more than the explicit reality). But like I said before, my question's obsolete now. I'm going to do what I like and leave the opinion exchange alone - I can still check out what the 'good' amv-ers are doing and try my own comparisons. And if I do manage a 'generally accepted' theme, that's fine, too.

I disagree that all publicity is good publicity. Not to an artist...ithaqua wrote:See? This is why a blatant shock video would be good. Force attention on yourself. All publicity is good publicity.
However, defying people's expectations and throwing something at them that will make them go 'whoa' or 'WTF?' - that's not a bad thing. Just don't stretch the sexual content rule too far, I don't think Phade will be happy... that said though, I think he noted somewhere that if in doubt, you can contact him and get him to see your video and then make a decision.
And since you got a pretty unconventional visual theme... I think it should be much easier to find unusual music to match. Heh, it's much harder to do that for something more 'normal'.
Anyways, whatever it is you're gonna do, I'm gonna see it... just to see how far you can go with this

Really? The video upload page says that "If you think that maybe your video contains any scene that might be considered sexual nudity or excessive graphic violence by the admin of this site, it's best to play it safe and not to upload it." That, combined with the fact that only members can download (which I didn't know when I first uploaded a video) really reduces my eagerness to make local uploads. I don't want to spend time worrying over someone else's zero-tolerance policy, one-strike-you're-out acceptable content policy.Otohiko wrote:Just don't stretch the sexual content rule too far, I don't think Phade will be happy... that said though, I think he noted somewhere that if in doubt, you can contact him and get him to see your video and then make a decision.
