Yea I've always wanted to set-up an FTP but just never new how exactly I would go about doing that.
From what I've heard I think you need a dedicated computer with a Good Deal of Hard Drive Space on it, and you also need some kind of High Speed Internet Connection (ie. Cable or DSL), and also some type of software.
Is there anything else I need?
And what software would be the most ideal for.......
Client = ?
Server = ?
Through the forum search I've done it seems that ppl prefer BulletProof FTP and also Serv-U FTP and also CuteFTP and also Guild FTP.
But of these softwares i'm not sure which ones are the Best for Client or Server or maybe one of those is the best for both Client and Server.
And exactly how much Hard Drive Space would be needed considering that i'm gonna have AMVs for download.
And is there anything else I need.
Now I've searched through all the forums for this subject and although this gets asked quite a bit I haven't found a straight-forward answer to this question.
Hopefully with the feedback I get I might be able to write a guide on this and help those whom might also be interested in setting-up an FTP.
Actually I've posted this topic before but the feedback I got was a bit difficult to undertsand cause at the time, I didn't have the understanding of how an FTP *actually* worked versus now I do have that understanding =)

(thats the original post I made)
Oh and plz when you respond to this try and make it simple so as that I know what your talkin' about and I know where to get and how I would go about getting or setting up anything else i would need in setting this FTP up.
Oh and if things go well who knows maybe I can offer some of you a place for your AMVs =)
Anyhelp would be appreciated,
Thanks In Advance,

OK.
HD space: you need enough to hold all the videos you want to give people, plus enough room for the program itself and log files. (not much, compared to the AMV's themselves)
Client= the leeches problem, I like leech FTP (free) or BPFTP (worth the money)
Server: I like BPFTP server($30) others like other stuff. :p
DSL or Cable is a must, how fast is up to you. How much can you afford? I have a "business" DSL line, 512 up, and 1024 down.
that's enough to host a few average AMV's IMO. If you win a contest, you would be killed with a line like mine.
also, many ISP's say no servers, but will overlook that particular notion if your bandwidth usage isn't insane, and you use a port other than 21, and password protect your server.
um, that all I have for you for now.

ISP's......Does that mean I have to host the FTP?
Damn.....I thought I could use FTP as an alternative apart from hosting vids.
OK....if thats the case that I have to get the FTP hosted........I would need a static IP then......what about the "Insert-Name.dns2go.com"? Could I use that as my static IP for my FTP Server?
I have one here >> http://dns2go.deerfield.com//
its NGF.DNS2Go.com
Would I be able to run my FTP server with that?
Thanks Again,
