Now, I'm not exactly well versed in what's out there, which is why I joined up here. That and to get advice from learned experts.
I had a few ideas (well, OK, one) for an AMV set to some songs from musicals. Has anyone else attempted any such videos? Could anyone possibly toss some ideas out? I did do a quick search and turned up a Broadway thread from back in November of '02, but since necromancy is frowned upon on pretty much every other board I've been on, I thought I'd ask again.
The idea I have, and am going to be working on, is for 'I Dreamed a Dream' from Les Miserables. I'm planning on setting it to Fushigi Yuugi footage.
I would like to do something for 'Memory' from Cats, but for the life of me, I can't think of a good anime to use. I also toyed with the idea of doing something to Les Mis' 'Lovely Ladies'. That one could be a bit over the edge, though. Any other suggestions, folks?

I really really wanted to do a video with Juri from Revolutionary Girl Utena with "Nobody's Side" from Chess, as kind of an image song. It's been shelved, though. Just lost steam. I might still do it someday, maybe.
And a humor video with "No Contest" is on my "if I ever feel like doing something stupid" list, just because the song cracks me up and I think a lipsync vid of it would be hilarious. But then my sense of humor is odd and I'm a Chess-loving dork. (...who also thinks a hell of a drama AMV could be done to "I Know Him So Well," cough.)
The thought's crossed my mind to take another listen to Hair for AMVing purposes, just for the heck of it - although the title song's been done and done well, one of the oddball short songs might be fun, "Air" maybe. Shrug.
...most of my favorites probably wouldn't AMV-ify well, though. I defy anyone to come up with a workable idea for Sweeney Todd.

I know that there's an AMV called Bravo Drano (I can't remember who made it) that included a clip from Hairspray's "Good Morning Baltimore."
Staying at the back of my mind is Urusei Yatsura set to "A Lot of Living to Do" from Bye Bye Birdie. I can never forget about it whenever I hear the opening line: "There are chicks just meant for some kissin', and I mean to kiss me a few." That just screams 'Ataru' to me.

Sarah, good to see I'm not the only Chess fan left out there. Never got to see the show, but an ex introduced me to it years ago.
Another Les Miserables song occurred to me. 'A Little Fall of Rain', Eponine's death scene. Might be interesting to do high drama video to. For the 'Just Plain Wrong' category, one could try 'The Heat Is On in Saigon'.
'Wishing You Were Somehow Here Again' might also make for a good vid, if one could find enough footage suitable for song about lost love. Maybe Fuishigi Yuugi could be manipulated for that...

Idea I had a long while ago (might've even been in the Nov '02 thread, I can't remember) was Eva to "Jesus Christ Superstar." I might still do that one, actually, now that I have DVDs.
My latest additions to that train of thought, though, is One Piece to Gilbert and Sullivan's "I Am a Pirate King" (Pirates of Penzance) and Cowboy Bebop to "All That Jazz" from Chicago.
