Are Subtitles Ever A Good Idea?

Post by Chris 192 » Sun Sep 07, 2003 12:05 pm

I've read guides on making good AMVs and they always tell you to use a non subtitled version when selecting your source material and to cover them up at the least if all you have is a sub version, my question is this...

Is it ever acceptable, can a person make a good AMV with two or three scenes having subtitles?

Thanks for taking the time to read this everyone. :D

Well, it won't totallu destroy your AMV, however...

have you considered the fact that removing the subs usually takes no longer than a few seconds?

Here's teh part most of you will hate me for, I actually recorded 2 versions one with subs and one without the reason I'm asking is because I have 2 scenes where I've added subtitles for teh effect they are only a couple of lines though.

Oh.

If subs are part of your artistic approach and added for effect, then it's a different scenario.

In this case, if you consider them neccesary or enchancing to the effect of your video - then, no problem. You're the creator, do what you want. Leave what you want.

The only time I use Subtitles in when I put in a quote from the series or a small intro from the series. But even then some times I still use the dub because some of the dubs say it better.

Thorax Entertainment's "Your Hinascope" video was done with subtitles, yet it's still a really great vid. Your choice, really.

I've sub-titles my own translations before, but there is a reason that they ask
you not to use pre-subbed anime: 8) it doesn't encode correctly 8)

In what sense, you mean it appears blocky?
