Holy shit, where did this thread come from? It's AWESOME.

Time for a history lesson:

I make a music video, fulfilling a deal I made with Hsien Lee. It doesn't suck, so I put it up for download.

I get bored, and review it because it makes more sense to make the comments I made there in a review rather than in the video information, and because I was bored and it was fun.

Later on, I'm bored again. Some guy makes some thread announcing a new video by him and some other guy, or something.
It has laughable video information extolling the video's virtues in fascinatingly poor english. I decide to download it, because I'm still bored.

Most times, if a video is bad, I can't bring myself to finish watching it. This video, however, in a combination between its sheer awfulness and the text from the video information, holds me mesmerised. I simply COULD NOT STOP watching, for fear that I would miss the next glaring error in how the video was constructed.
A little later on that night I notice how inflated the a-m-v.org average opinion numbers feel to me, and recall that it's been ages and ages since I read a bad review about anything. I decide to right some of this wrong.

I write the review (the full text of which can be read in that same thread, since OtakuForLife saw fit to post it, begging for less honest opinions in order to make the video appear less crappy to unwary viewers. He got them, too.
I don't really care. I've had my fun with them.

I go to AWA.

I come back, and find out that RattleSnake has reviewed my video. I laugh, because while he makes some weird remarks about how much my friends have helped me with my video, he has still given me a pretty decent review.
I don't follow up, because I've had my fun again.

Later on, about 5 minutes ago, I'm bored again, and decide to poke around the AMV forum. Find this thread. type this up, etc.
Now, seriously, I'd actually still be fine with this, but they actually dragged my name into it.
Why? What was the point of that? You could have been annoyed with my personal habits without pointing out that it was me. Hell, I would have still figured out that it was me just by virtue of the fact that it was you who posted about it. I would have laughed again and said nothing, and you would have felt vindicated anyway, and everyone would be happy.
But now you just look really stupid. And this is coming from someone who has never known either of you to look very smart to begin with, so I think that says something.

Oh, and while I have your attention, I want to know what this business about my friends is supposed to be about. The only things I've had my friends help me with for that video were in getting me the footage, providing feedback on little bits I wasn't sure about, and in fixing some technical problems that cropped up with the AVS scripts and exporting. None of my friends have reviewed my video. They gave me help on things when I asked for it, in order to help me produce a better product.
Meanwhile, I'm lead to believe that the video you made that's in question was very much not edited on your own. And your video is crap.
So what's with the implication that I'm unqualified to review videos because I've "never made one on my own?"

Where are you getting this thing about my friends from anyway? The completely non-specific thank you note at the end of the video?

As for being long winded, as you can see, I just fucking am. Some people have more to say than "OMGWTF SLEFPROMOTEING BITCH!" And some people can say it without spelling the words wrong.
The review I left you people was long, too. I didn't hear you complain about that. It explained with great accuracy why I believe it deserves the score I gave it.

I still suggest you stop making videos, or at least learn to type.

On a more general note:
What's wrong with reviewing your own video? I mean, sure, its a system that could have been taken advantage of, but the whole concept of the .org revolves around trust anyway. For instance, I trust people to not make shitty videos. A lot of times, this trust is violated, but I don't complain about it. At least not on the boards.
If an editor has more to say than what's in the video information, I think it only makes sense to write a review.
I also believe it's just a good idea to review your own videos, as long as it isn't just used as a tool for evil and to inflate their average. The editor will have a much different perspective when he watches the video than anyone else. It gives other people another angle.
I firmly believe in the numbers I gave my video, as they apply to my point of view.
