Tip: watch the Best Buy ads. After the rebates, some of their prices are mad low. Case in point: I once saw a DVD-ROM/burner combo for $20 after discounts and rebates.

Pricing examples

Best price I've seen was $40 for a Cendyne (Pioneer) 4X DVD writer. That was an unannounced clearance at OfficeMax last week. Unfortunately, it was sold out long before I could get to a store.

Also, for our US members, www.newegg.com is a great source for equipment.

Check http://www.slickdeals.net

I try to check that site at least once a day. Because of that site I have an obscene amount of harddrive space from some very cheap deals posted there.

According to the main page there is this offer that is related to the topic:

NEC ND-2500A 8X Black DVD+RW/-RW Drive $81 shipped

And that is without rebates.

That's a nice link, I never heard of that site before. You can also check http://www.pricewatch.com
Be wary of shopping online though as there are a few places listed there that might not be so reputable. They added a feedback feature for the dealers on there, so it's usually a good idea to read them beforehand.

But if you're just looking to get some clips, you don't really need a DVD burner.

True, you can get a capture card instead and get footage from your legally purchased vhs tapes. ^_^

I just think dvds are much simpler to work with, better quality as well.

I paid 160 for the pioneer A-06 back when that price was considered cheap for it.....

Now my local comp store has an 80 dollar DVD burner + 50 blank DVD deal.
