Also, yes, yes this one: Macross Plus.

It has planes(one of my favorite, the experimental YF-19 Excalibur), and has some good character interaction. Its a damn good show with plenty of fast paced action and fly bys(to fit the sounds you described earlier).

You might have just nailed it with Outlaw Star. Figuring this out for myself, it is the only title I can find that works perfectly. But as I've said, it's already used enough times and I was just hoping to find some alternative that's not as frequently used.

Hmmm, yeah, anything that's been shown on CN has been overused due to mass exposure. Sad, but true.

Another one, though not anime, is Titan A.E.
When you suggested the song, for some reason I started thinking of that one part in Titan A.E. that has the Urge's "It's my turn to Fly" playing.

The arcade game was called Sinistar, which is very likely an inspiration to the bands name, Sinisstar (note the one extra s to avoid legal troubles).
I feel like I'm the only one who actually listens to this band.
Not heavy metal per se, but I think either Flint or ithaqua said it was "thrash rock".
Some songs are pretty good. At least worth a look.

outlaw star seems to hold the most promise, sure it's widely used, but i don't think i remember any popular recent AMVs using it... not that i was looking though

the only outlaw star video i remember being good that i've seen is the one put to Metallica's 'No Leaf Clover (symphony version)'

but if this song is like most of the music that you use (heavy/thrash metal), then i think Outlaw Star is still the best choice

but i haven't heard of, let alone seen, S-Cryed, Pilot Candidate, Saishu Heiki Kanojo, or Yukikaze

Titan A.E. would be kule, and seeing as how's it's a U.S. animated movie, it holds some originality value just not being japanese... though using U.S. animated stuff is slowly starting to become acceptable... very slowly, but i think that's acceptable

Titan AE would be cool, however the animation isnt really that good in it. I say treasure planet would be a good one. (Although no one likes this movie)

Then why hasn't anybody used it? Well, hardly anybody has heard of him, which is a shame, and probably doesn't like listening to Hard Rock inspired music any more. But like you, I can only see OUTLAW STAR as a perfect match for this song, thematically and visually (character designs have that gritty hard rock/heavy metal style, especially with the hair!)

BTW, have you heard his new album? The song Living With Wolves is tailor-made for Wolf's Rain. The lyrics literally describe that world...barren wastelands, wolves and all.
