^I'd have it hosted on this site, but I felt it was too violent.

Problem with Hip-Hop and anime is... otakus tend to be Japanophiles. And the Japs, as much as they are Americanoites, aint exactly understand America. They see us all as cowboys who do nothing but draw super heroes and talking animals. And while there is plenty of jabronis who dress decked out like thugs, as well as plenty of beautiful graffiti, it's only the Japanese people, and young ones at that, who know anything about Hip-Hop. And unfortunetly, in Japan, young children are not as influential as they are in America, so big corporations have yet to exploit it, and expose it into anime, and thus expose it to American otakus who will end up worshipping it in such a perverse manner as they worship many things of Japanese orgin.

Um... I think that made sense. Basicly: Japanese business men have not raped Hip-Hop as American business men have, so fans of anime have yet to be properly exposed to it. Unless they were Ninja Turtle fans like me, and have always been down with Vanilla Ice. Go Ninja Go Ninja Go Ninja Go!

I have one vid to rap/raggae, and theres a few out there. well its not modern i guess, but the problem is I don;t realy like modern stuff, Its gone down the tube for the most part. All about nothing but sex, violence, and how bad/good they aare and how much they can bling-bling. No substance to their lyrics like the good old days.

oh and a side note, Saun paul isn't rap, Its regae, and sometimes calypso/soca, but those generally stay in Jamaica.

ok first of all who needs substance to lyrics i think modern music has perfectly good lyrics and not all songs are about that stuff u mentioned. Plus, it has a good beat and i dunno it makes me feel good. Hey, it's better than teenage mutant ninja turtles [Unsent Vibes]

Side note: yes, fyi sean paul is a combo of hip hop rap and reggae listen to his song Like Glue thats mostly the kinda stuff i like

I dunno, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles R Kewl W00T!

I won't go on a big rap hating spree or say that rap is shit or anything like that. But I will tell you that today's rap is by far shit compared to what rap used to be. Plus, IMO (flame me if you want) just by looking around I have come to the conclusion that 90% of the people who listen to today's rap music are either huge dicks or not very intelligent people.

And no Sean Paul is not rap, but he still sucks. :P

it's all about the lyrics

Post by novablastr » Thu May 27, 2004 3:48 pm

i think the main reason people actually do linkin park amvs 100-bajillion times more than an usher amv is because of lyrics. linkin park's lyrics are themes pretty universal as opposed to a dance song about clubbing. honestly, how many club scenes can you find in an anime? i think the problem is hip hop song in amvs will end up just being all comedy related. snore.

Inuyasha5572, you and me are on the same side here. We're just different sides of the same coin. That coin being Hip-Hop. You're a hedonist overgrounder, I'm a masochist undergrounder. But it's all Hip-Hop, and it's all good, so much love.

Not so much universal as it is blatant pandering. Now, Sage Francis' song "Andy Kaufman" can only be about one thing. And if you don't know the comedian, you probably wouldn't understand the song. Whereas, Linkin Park's "Somewhere I Belong" is a call to pretty much everyone who's ever felt left out. You might think that's a good thing, but you must realize it was written to appeal to kids who have money. They make those songs for the sole sake of money. You might say that it wasn't for the money, that it was for the music, but only overgrounder I know who's ever released an album for free was Public Enemy, a rap group (Who's lyrics by the way are generally quite dated and can only appeal to anyone with an intelligence level capable of at least grasping basic political injustices.)
