These have been really helpful to me. I'm looking especially for instrumental peices if anyone has some more suggestions.
Instrumental and depressing, I think you sould look to classic music first. Moonlight sonata was already mentioned.

If you don't look for classic music, maybe also some Metal or Gothic/EBM. Many Metal Interprets have at least one instrumental per CD. So e.g. Axel Rudi Pell has one per CD, always a slow one. I think, the Gothic/EBM Bands (e.g. the ones I've mentioned before) also have some Instrumentals, but don't know, Gothic isn't my primary music taste (sometimes a bit EBM like Deine Lakeien or Silke Bischoff but not much).

Ya, Classical for depression!

Classical music is great for depression... and a lot of it doesnt have lyrics, so you can just use the beatcounts in AMVs. I only really know one (I'm not really into classical, but this was too good)

Adagio for Strings - Samuel Barber

My copy is rather quiet. If you're hunting it up, it might also be spelled Adigio... and a lot of the remixes are good, too, but probably not what you're looking for. This song is sooo depressing, lol. Oh... and it happens to be 10 minutes long.

Yeeeah, I would suggest editing it for an AMV...

A good depressing song:

AFI - Leaving Song Part I
"I need to be unhappy to smile, but I haven't quite got the hang of it." - Poison the Well

No Need to have an Answer by Virgo
Insignificant by Nevermore
Vanished in Haze by Rage
Ice Cold Man by Probot
This Love by Pantera
Silver Future by Monster Magnet
Glory of the Brave by Hammerfall

For songs with weird sounds an depressing lyrics, you should look at Orgy, Machine Head, Tool, Radiohead or Static-X

Objects in the Rearview Mirror by Meat Loaf is sorta depressing. It's probably too long to use though

I've found this really weird guy Tony Mason who does odd experimental stuff including instrumentals and songs that sound like the product of a disturbed mind. (His "Happy Face" which is supposedly humorous, comes to mind.) I found those mp3s here:

I should mention that this is the guy who actually did the "Barney's On Fire" song that's often attributed to Weird Al Yankovic. If you're looking for creepy instrumentals, his "I'm No Enya" CD is a good place to find some.
