I guess if i made one wich i'm still to find enouph stuff for and still brainstorming ideas it would depend on the video but I guess ripping everything just in case would be smart 8)

I don't tend to use even a full episode.
Instead I use small pieces of different episodes to make 5 minutes worth of footage. I don't see how you could fit an entire 1, let alone 23, episodes worth of information into a 5 minute song. That is unless you want it to turn out looking like this:

As has been said before, as much as possible to keep footage from repeating.

I've made do with less; for my Blue Gender AMV I used the first two discs (6 episodes) in part because it was all I had, and also because I didn't want to have spoilers from the second half of the series. Using only early episode footage also fit the lyrics of the song used.

That said, I've got two ideas that'll require ripping entire shows, mostly because I need every shot I can squeeze out of certain characters, and they only appear every couple of episodes.
