important question

I just joined yesterday however I have a few amv's downloaded already from file sharing programs. So my question is if they aren't on the site should I put them on and state they are not mine or just keep them

Just keep them. You shouldn't post other peoples videos.

Its likely they are listed under another title and/or the creator may have made a mistake in identifying the artist. (I'm gonna scream if I see another 'Which backstreet boy is gay' vid mis-identified as Wierd Al. I think Zarxrax is the only one who ever got it right.)

I know people who will re-name a video to make it easier to identify. (tiptoes away quietly.)

That's fine I just wanted to know the general opinion of all the viewers out there

I certainly won't post anything that isn't wanted

I do hope to be able to post one of my own video's eventually just need to read the guide (and gain artistic talent)

having settled my previous issue I'd like to turn this post into something more useful

does anyone have any suggestions on amvs that are small enough for someone downloading with a 56k modem

the size of "small enough" depends on your patience.

And can't you proxy the videos if they're not up? Or do you have to be an admin or something? I mean to put them on the proxy account.

Apathy Local: 16.3 mb, direct: 18 mb. an excellent serious/romance video.

Local only. 18.9 mb (oh great, you'll have to wait almost two weeks before you can even start downloading this one). No locals, I guess. But this is still a good video.

Some of the smaller videos I've kept. Anyhow, what's your cutoff (how big a file will you download?). I have broadband so for me, it doesn't matter much about the filesize, especially with a big harddrive.

Good quality videos tend to be in the 50mb range (a little above or below). If you're timing out halfway through the download, you might try getting Opera to use for local videos - it lets you resume local downloads if you get cut off. www.opera.com

Otherwise, I'm on dial-up as well and I tend to let it download at night - an average 6 hrs per vid. Takes time, but the quality is usually worth it.
