I generally hate to say this but.

It's really up to the creator to decide what's good and bad for his paticular video. While one could obviously say if it's a comedy video it needs lyrical sync, the other might say it's funnier when nothings happening.

It's all diffrences in opinion, do what you feel you have to.

i always go for Lyric sync, it brings consitency in the vid, and most of the things i've made are pretty unusual in that part. However lipsync is still something i have to master, but that might come with time.

I do really care one way or another if the video I'm watching is Lyric-Synced or not. But, a lot of people do. So, unless I have a reason not to, I've been tring to lyric-sync to please a wider audience.

Lyric sync may have some unintended consequences. Remember last year's Drama/Serious winner at Otakon, <a href="http://www.animemusicvideos.org/members ... over</a>'s <a href="http://www.animemusicvideos.org/members ... rching"</a>? It was on the whole a rather dramatic and depressing video, but on the line "more than some pretty face beside a train", Grover chose to include a shot of one of those huge desert trains pulling in, with the result that everyone at Otakon laughed at that part.

Not that that's a bad thing.

I like to think that there's a middle ground with lyric sync. It lies between the extremes of being too literal ("oh, the lyrics say 'moon' here, better add in a shot of that") and completely disregarding the lyrics altogether. The lyrics should serve to relate the scenes you're showing to the story you're trying to tell, but by no means should they be an absolute blueprint.

I find that people often take lyrical synching too literally, and disrupt the flow of the video with cuts that don't particularly fit.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that it's better to catch the meaning behind the words rather than the words themselves.

i have an original idea for my video
very original
with lyric-synching
and the whole complex video
my only problem is that the song is too original and hard to edit with

oh and my editing app is also fucked up

I play with lyrics. Often the scene choice will make sense to me and no-one else -- and that's ok.

When lyrics and melody+rhythm are combined there's always a small number of "hot spots" in the song -- places where the sync really matters. I like to really go all-out on those sections and have other sections act as buildup to those.

Of course, I'm not one to listen to if you want popularity :)
