Troubles with viewing winamp media files
Recently, I've been downloading AMVs, most of which are formatted as winamp media files. I have been having this weird problem with most of them- They'll begin malfunctioning about a few seconds in, and then stop. Does anyone know what's going on?
I have winamp version 5.03a

Aggh-! Gragh-! Err... Tompkins.. died somehow (Torso takes silver!)

"Winamp media files"?
Does that mean MPEGs, AVIs, or both?
It may be a codec problem; do you have <a href="http://athos.leffe.dnsalias.com/">ffdshow</a>?

try the new version of winamp, check the format of your video by unchecking the hide format extension's, figure out what it is, what codec you need, then browse freecodecs.com until you find what you need. ive been having a similar duel with winamp for over a month, its a great player when it works fine, and ive grown too attached to discard it, but another player that seems good is jetaudio if you want to take the easy way out. hope that helps. klite codec pack, when properly installed, usually fixes the problems for me but that might not be for everyone.

Actualy, before trying a newer version of winamp, try *gasp* an older version of winamp.
That's right, go onto google and search for a place where you can download Winamp 2.9. In my opinion, it's the last good and stable version that Nullsoft made: Winamp 3 outright sucked and Winamp 5 still had some stability issues on my computer when I tried it (and my system, while middle of the road, is no slouch for processing power.) Those issues include, if I remember correctly, problems similar to what you described.
If you're still having the same problems after that, then check for codecs, etc (trying to play the file in Windows Media Player or Real Player might auto-detect and download the codecs for you.)
