This reminds me of a conversation I never had with Himiko...
-----
Himiko: Well, AMVs are legal there, right?
paizuri: Yeah, they're legal, but they ain't a hundred percent legal. I mean you can't walk into a restaurant, start up an AMV, and start puffin' away. You're only supposed to watch in your home or certain designated places.
Himiko: Those are AMV conventions?
paizuri: Yeah, it breaks down like this: it's legal to buy it, it's legal to own it and, if you're the proprietor of an AMV comvention, it's legal to sell it. It's legal to carry it, which doesn't really matter 'cause -- get a load of this -- if the cops stop you, it's illegal for them to search you. Searching you is a right that the cops in Amsterdam don't have.
-----
Actually, some of the things mentioned above are wrong, but I was trying to change the least amount of dialogue possible to still make sense.

This reminds me of a conversation I had with Paizuri's dog once:
Me: What does Paizuri look like?
Dog: Wh-what?
Me: What country you from?
Dog: Wh-what?
Me: "What" ain't no country I ever heard of! They speak English in "What"?
Dog: Wh-what?
Me: English, motherfucker, DO YOU SPEAK IT?
Dog: Yes.
Me: Then you know what I'm talking about. What does Paizuri look like?
Dog: What?
Me: SAY "WHAT" AGAIN! I DARE YA, I DOUBLE-DARE YA, MOTHERFUCKER, SAY "WHAT" ONE MORE GODDAMN TIME!
Dog: He's asian!
Me: Go on...
Dog: He's scrawny!
Me: Does he look like a bitch?
Dog: What?
Me: :blam: DOES HE LOOK LIKE A BITCH?
Dog: Yes!
Me: Oh. No wonder. My mistake, sorry.
And unlike Paizuri, I didn't have to look up the dialogue I think I'm at least sort of close

Like TemprateRage said, amvs are a kind of advertisement. As a matter of fact, I decided to start collecting two series after seeing amvs that used footage from them: Trigun and Saber Marionette J. Besides, it's not like we're distributing full episodes/movies or anything.

Which is why, while the anime distributors can't endorse the creation of AMV's, have proven quite willing to turn a blind eye to them. Hooray for free advertising.Gaikotsu wrote:Like TemprateRage said, amvs are a kind of advertisement. The Record Industry Asshole Alliance no doubt sees it differently, event though AMV's can and do have the the same effect for music as anime, and large, cumbersome video files are a really lousy way to get hold of a song.
