Actually Cyberpunk is the definition of a certian animegenre, not of a musical style.

Not just anime. Literature too. William Gibson's books have been called cyberpunk. The quintessential "cyberpunk" books are Snow Crash by Neal Stephenson and Neuromancer by William Gibson.

From them came Bubblgum Crisis (both ones), Ghost in the Shell, Armitage, and more.

Personally, I think even the name 'Armitage' is a direct Neuromancer reference.

I only know OF William Gibson, really. It wasn't until, um, three days ago that I picked up a Gibson book. Currently reading Pattern Recognition, which is less cyberpunk, perhaps, but still good.
