I always have a good idea of the time I spend editing, which for the most part has been about 3.5 hours of work per 1 minute of video (although it went up somewhat in my more recent efforts).

Although the total time goes up once you include ripping, setting things up, filtering, compressing, etc. etc.

Not better, faster. Your whole point was that quality and speed need not be related.

And I agree with you to a point but there is a positive corolation between effort and time, even if a three hour video is good it probably could be cleaned up given some more time. Also above a certain level, no video is going to be made in that time period.

To use your analogy: someone may be able to paint a picture in 30 minutes that would take you three hours, but no matter how good they are, it won't be the sistine chapel ceiling.

As for me I edit like a frikin sloth.

I'd say my average for a 4.5 minute video is around 4 days, with something like 8hrs a day, not including planning, ripping, or compressing & uploading. So...32 hrs.

For a simple video that doesn't involve effects done 'outside' the source, I'd say around 12 hrs unless I decide to change my plans in the middle of the video.

I almost always plan ahead to conserve space for the huffyuv clips. If you're going from a 'prepared source', it'll probably take you longer to experiment (sans planning) but you save the time for ripping.

My longest video (working time) involved something like 3 hrs per 1 second, 6 hrs for a few of the clips. But the actual editing of the pure source helped make up time. It just depends on whether I'm using anime as my source, or 'created' footage (aka effects or edited frames). If little of the video is actually anime, it'll probably take quite a while to make.

Poll being answered, I'd say find your own pace. Some videos may take you 3 times as long as a typical vid, others may be much faster than that. It just depends on what you're working with, and how much excess you put on top of the anime footage. I would also suggest that if you're going to count hours and put weight on that, try planning ahead of time - that way you're only counting the actual *editing* time spent. Those who compare editing time (dick measuring contests) tend to inflate their scores by including months of 'planning' in which nothing is really done aside from procrastination and a minute or two of thought here and there. Sort of defeats the purpose of chalking up those 'busy hours that prove your dedication'. ;p

60+ hours. That includes ripping, rendering, previewing etc etc. Keep in mind though that about five of those hours are running through my video one frame at a time to check everything again.

It took me 1,5 month for "Man of sorrows" (5:25) and 2,5 months for "War of wrath" (5:35). It just depends on how much editing you're willing to do.

Hm....to answer your question.....
I'd have to say about 3 to 4 days if I'm not busy...

But if the music vid. is just trash I put together, it
would probably take me about 10 minutes or less to be finished with it
completely..

I've done a five minute video in a single afternoon before. Hey, what can I say? I was riding a high of discovering Premiere.

On the other hand, I've spent a month on a video that was roughly three minutes.

It really depends on...well, everything.
