You can play any video (except for the odd .mov) in Windows Media Player as long as you have the right codecs.

Check the Guide to Playing Those Damn Videos. It'll help.

There, link if you're too lazy to look for it yourself
The Birds are using humanity in order to throw something terrifying at this green pig. And then what happens to us all later, that’s simply not important to them…

Are you lookin' for just any videos in general that can be played on WMP? 'Cause all of my videos can be watched on there... since they were made with WMM... :-D

Google a search for codecs and download a codec pack. There are several and they are free of charge.

Next use another damn player. Try the latest Winamp. Winamp is a hell of a lot better with many more options.

Don't forget that Realmedia (.rm), like Quicktime (.mov) does not play in all players.

Of course .rm can be played in the Helix player outside of the standard Real Player.

There is also a thing called Real Alternative and QT Alternative that are supposed to use the codecs to play the files in other players like Media Player Classic.

Go to www.videohelp.com to get AVIcodec and/or Gspot to check which codec is required for a file.

Get Codecs Here:

Not sure about the other links that are posted there, but --->

http://forum.anime-supreme.com/viewtopic.php?t=3200

In that thred there is a link to a couple mirrors (one in the Netherlands, the other in the US) to get a codec pack that will solve all ure needs for lots of hrs of .ogm and .mkv goodness. Ive been using this codec pack since we put it together and never come across any problems. We test it against all the .ogm's an .mkv's we put together an have yet to hit a roadblock.

Enjoy

If you go to www.free-codecs.com use the K-lite Codec pack. It works for most everything, but so do most big codec packs.

For .ogm files go to www.doom9.org and download the Ogg Directshow Filters if the codec pack does not work. Do a search on doom9 if you can't find it easy.

I haven't encountered many .mkv, but I think that is just a container so the codecs in it could very. I know it gets used with Ogg alot so the Ogg Directshow Filters or K-lite Codec Pack may work on .mkv.
