People that use black and white on footage, and then in the video comments they write "Black and white scenes=past".

It's such an obvious piece of symbolism.

Fixed. :o

I actually have one other pet peeve that's not been said, but I rather not say it since the reason of not actually doing it is pretty obvious.

Effects

Post by Jester_Borris » Wed Aug 24, 2005 3:24 pm

Over use of effects.

Filling a video with awesome effects is fine until the effects start detracting from your video. I'm too busy watching a "laser show" of effects to begin to see the footage or listen to the music. It bothers me in the same way some rock songs are incoherent yelling backed up by smashing on a set of drums. I just can't do it. This isn't to say that effects are bad, just use them well. Please. For the children.

1. End credits that start playing different music right as the AMV ends (or sometimes before it's over). I mean, give me a minute to digest your video before you start blaring your ego at me.

2.
Orphan frames, if only because once you notice them you can never unsee them.
x2

3. Slowing down a clip to fill the space, but that it looks like everything's creeping along at the pace of a slug.

4. Having no apparent storyline or theme. Why make something that just looks like a bunch of random clips with a song?

5. Random lipsync or syncing just half a lyric for no reason.
Yeah, the AMV thesis....that was me.

Solid white frames. Not fading to white, I mean solid white frames on every beat or just a solid white frame for fun.

I am waiting for the day when a video is just full frames of color that change with each beat.

A lot of these "pet peeves" make me laugh... only because I know many of my videos have them hahaha.

The overuse of purposeful internet mis-spellings or internet abbreviations.

I can only take so many "OMGs" or "WTFs" appearing in a video, much less the entire net. :P

ppl who rate videos down because its a song or genre they dont like. Hip hop gets blasted for this a lot. Almost no vid should get a 1 in sound, unless its that bad, because choice of song and sound quality are 2 different things...
If it's something I don't like, isn't that why you rate stuff?? I agree, if it's a misconceived notion like prejudging all rap amvs to a 6 point max or something, but I rate stuff based on how WELL I perceive they go together, yes, based soleley on MY opinion. Takeing no account whether I like the genre or not, I rate the mix of video and audio NOT to my taste. I hate when ppl mistake those 2.

The ones who seem to get personally offended if the 'wrong' video wins a contest. The ones who seem to think that because they spent 100+ hours on their video then everyone should. Also the ones who think it's somehow shameful to take 100+ hours to make a video. It's a hobby guys, we all enjoy it in our own way, fucking relax a little.

Especially about the contests and about the opinions, take Amvs seriously.. It's not bad, but take Amvs in that way it's plainly errated. And I just get mad when people that get 7 or 8 complain that "why a such lower score", man I would sell my organs for get an 8 at school.
