Can you enter your AMV in a con you're not attending?

That's the question. Can you enter your AMV in a con you're not attending?

I want to know whether I can send my videos through the digital entry forms to anime cons that I have no intention of attending. I really appreciate any responses.

people do international entries all the time. YOu have to read the comp rules/some are regional only - and if nothing is stated try and get in contact with the coordinater/s.

That's really good becuase there's only one con in my area and i don;t want to wait 'til next summer again XD

It depends entirely upon the convention's rules.

If you don't plan on attending, it's generally considered good form to try and submit to the larger conventions, as opposed to the smaller, local cons.

My impression is the opposite. Larger cons have awards and award ceremonies, so they like to have the winners there to receive the prizes. Smaller cons don't have those kinds of resources. And they're usually overlooked by the AMV community and therefore desperate to receive any entries they can get whether the creators show up or not.

While the smaller cons may need entires, many of them prohibit videos from winning if the creator does not plan on attending. It makes sense, being that it's unfair to the creators if, say, someone in Pennsylvania sends out videos to a bunch of small out-of-state cons and wins in South Florida. If you don't care enough about the convention to bother attending, then it should at least be one of the larger conventions that tends to attract that kind of national participation, like Otakon, Acen, and AWA. And yes, many of them do mail out prizes, since some of the winners often do not even live in the US.

Ya I talkeds to the AMV co-ordinator of Sakura-Con and he said they mail out prizes and they even sent a prize to Australia

Canada should be a cinch then XD

Ya right yopu have got be kidding me. It depends on the convention. If they want entries by mail they will say so. If they didnt care about mail in or ftp entries winning they wouldnt open it to those people. I have come across very few contests that ypu have to be present to enter or even win Whether they be big or small. The only con that comes to mind may be Ushicon and if I read right i dont think it is a contest.. I have enter 10+ contests in the past 3 months and I have been able to attend 2. Just talk to the contest coordinators and they will let you know if it is not in the rules already.
