The short and the narrow ...Technically ... nope
...the problem I see a lot is that many good amv makers think they suck, and many bad amv makers think they're good.
I've seen it happen, man! I've SEEN IT!..

Making an AMV? Perfectly legal.

Ripping a copyprotected DVD for the footage for your AMV? Illegal according to the DCMA with some possible legal recourse via "fair use" copyright provisions.

Ripping an uncopyprotected DVD for your AMV? Perfectly legal.

Ripping songs from CDs for the music of your AMV? Same legalities as DVDs, technically.

Distributing your AMVs to other people? Illegal, but, most of the copyright holders seem to tolerate/ignore it (or this site wouldn't have the Donut).

Downloading AMVs are like downloading MP3s. Technically illegal unless you actually own the material you are downloading. If you view and then delete them, I suppose they cannot really do anything to you. But look at the lawsuits against the people who downloaded 1000's of MP3s in the past. Who knows, maybe one of the people registered at this site could be sued by the RIAA next?

Hey take a look back. This site exists so long if one takes a look on the join dates and it hasn't been shut down. Furhtermore, due to the idiotism (or should I say enlightement?) of a newb there are nomore Evanescence, seehter and some other bands amvs available. If the music-indutry, that must know of this wanted to shut down this site, they would have done it. Why think of whether the .org might be shut down? Pay your donation to this site to live on and don't care as long as no great problem appears.
