For those against 4Kids and CMX

Post by Malakiya_Knight » Sat Dec 24, 2005 11:25 am

Someone should make an AMV using Green Day's American idiot to illustrate what 4Kids and CMX has done to the anime and manga.

Could be interestin.. All I got is YGO, and I don't know the song.
Making an amv, is rather like being the director of a Broadway show, where you have a million dancers and each of them only knows one step.

That would be pretty funny actually .... there are quite a few edits in general that not even 4Kids did that you could split-screen to show. One Piece has tons of course, and there are quite a few bad edits in Gundam SEED as well. Card Captor Sakura I'm not sure how much physical editting was done, but they did alot of footage cuts.

I haven't seen stuff like Gash Bell or "Knights of the Zodiac" etc to know what other series have been butchered. I tend to watch it all before it ever hits TV.

Are you kidding, you haven't heard about how they did the Tenjou Tenge Manga?

Also Card Captor Sakura was done by Nelvana. That could be a good idea

Any anime that is badly edited would fit well

No, this is a bad idea, because I'm tired of all the dub hating going on at this place. Apparently, none of you know how hard these people (actors and production crew) work to put stuff into english to make it accessable to an english language audience.

Actually I do, I've talked to many of them at conventions, seeing a number of them multiple times per year. I think that the blame doesn't necessarily lie with the voice actors most of the time, but in bad choices by voice directors for who voices the character, and the type of voice they use.

I will admit that its partly not their fault. Japan has a MUCH larger pool of voice-acting talent to choose from. And in fact, they have schools that teach seiyuus how to voice act from a young age. (One such group visited Anime Expo this year and did a live rendition of IZUMO! at the opening ceremonies) Whereas we have companies that have a small pool of voice talent that usually only works for that 1 company, maybe 2. Thats why you tend to hear the same voices over and over on like ADV titles, or Funimation titles, etc.

It's SLOWLY getting better, but we'll have to see how strongly anime stays in America in the coming years for that to continue to get better. We need a large-scale shift of people getting into voice acting at a young age in order for you to start hearing voices that match more perfectly. But I suppose on the companies end, they try to get close most of the time, but in the end I think they aren't going to sweat it if they can't find a match for the Japanese voice.
