Confused - where would u draw the line

This is why AMV-contests are mostly judged by juries. So that people won't go "Ouh! I love that anime!" and vote based on what anime someone used.

ahhh..
its up to judges to avoid editors taking the price just because of the anime.

also its about making something worthy no matter the source u use, as long as u make something good ull be promoting that other persons original work and thats cool.
so amvers are helping the anime industry hehehe awsome.

Right... I took the question the OP posed as "should you feel guilty if you enter M@D videos in AMV contests?"

... I didn't answer the question though, just tried to clear up what I thought the question was because it seemed like a lot of other people were going on a tangent.

A MAD (most often) uses still images, tons of effects, and 3d camera motion. Most MADs lack a story - they're entirly eye candy. They're more often than not put together by more than one individual, in some cases an entire production team. The audio is usually fast-paced and sometimes created or remixed spicifically for the video.
