Storyboarding in amvs doesn't really work that well since scenes will always be longer or shorter than you expect. 90% of the time, you imagine scenes that don't really exist in the anime and you need to improvise when you realize that.

There were times I wanted Goku to shoot a Kamehameha for this 10 second segment of the song, only to realize that the scene only lasts for 3 seconds.

I think the better term is just describing your editing process.
