Hmm... nope. It definitely takes a set amount of hours. I'm pretty sure it's physically impossible to take less than 60 hours on an AMV.AbsoluteDestiny wrote:It takes as long as it takes.
How long does it take to make an AMV? [SPLIT]

Um I have around 10 videos that took less than that.flint_the_dwarf wrote:I'm pretty sure it's physically impossible to take less than 60 hours on an AMV.
The videos I did in a day or less are Storytelling, With One Accord in a Flash, Animix, Monkey Wrench, Accelanation, Miyazawa Raps and Instant Music Video.
I did A Godawful Small Affair, Aim For Victory and That Other Girl in 3 days each.

Hm. No, I'm pretty sure you didn't.AbsoluteDestiny wrote:Um I have around 10 videos that took less than that.flint_the_dwarf wrote:I'm pretty sure it's physically impossible to take less than 60 hours on an AMV.
...
I was being sarcastic, by the way. I've known people to make videos in an hour or two. Anyway, my first video only took about 40 hours of actual editing. And this previous one about 50 hours of actual editing.

My first one took me a couple of months since i ran into some problems with the script and all, if that doesnt count, then it would have just taken me about a month. This includes the though process and all the other fun stuff. I also think that it will take longer the more complicated effects u wanna add in.

5 hours = (a one joke, tastless video)
- For instance, I could make
Saikano - Drop the Bomb
Hentai - White X-mas
Gunslinger Girl - (kids verison) My Sunshine
-------------------------------------------
15- 20 hours = (a vid, with a well thought out backdrop)
Like my Vampire Girl AMV
-------------------------------------------
30 - 60 Hours = (overkill time, everything must be right)
My I don't want to runaway AMV
is good example of too much messing with the footage.
My next GTO video is in this catagory

For my first video, about 15 minutes of editing and two hours of poking around premiere going 'what's this do?' My current one was started in October and will probably be finished tommorow but it's an effects video so half of my time was spent going 'well that didn't work' and undoing what I did the other half of the time.

Yes. I never put anything on the timeline until I'm fairly sure how I want the composition of the scene to be, and even then I make changes like mad. Sometimes I give previews to friends, who rip the thing to shreds, piss me off, cause me to delete the entire section, storm away from the video for a couple weeks, play around with ideas in my sleep, and try again.Arigatomyna wrote:Do the 'hours' and 'weeks' include the time spent thinking about the vid but not working on it?
Another thing:
The video I'm working on now usually about four or so tracks simultaneously with about three effect plugins and motion parameters on each track. I'm not saying that to impress anyone -- I imagine that someone like, say, jrodegheri, if he is reading this, will either have a heart attack, send me scathing mail, or both -- but it should give some idea of how long such things take to render on a Stone Age Athlon Thunderbird 850 with 384 MB of PC133 SDRAM. I count render time as part of the creation process because it's important for me -- I cannot do real-time previews of my work, since (1) the software is not yet optimized enough and (2) my computer is just not fast enough. Therefore: to create, I have to wait.
It's a little like cutting your wrist with a butter knife for weeks on end. Doesn't hurt much at first, but eventually it really stings...and if you keep it up too long, you'll kill yourself.
It doesn't matter how long a vid was in production. I'm fairly sure the only reasons why I take so damned long is because (1) I'm obsessive and (2) I suck. And: Does it matter how long a vid takes to make? What does that say about Iron Chef videos?
