Ooh! Scary Music! Yippee!
I'm surprised that there haven't been any classical music contributions to this yet.
Here are some suggestions that you might try working with.
The television series "Goosebumps" used Beethoven's "Moonlight Sonata" as though it were to be spooky (not romantic) to some effect.
Another television series, "Alfred Hitchcock Presents", used Charles Gunot's "Funeral March of a Marionette" as its theme. That could be considered "spooky music".
Some of the music of Tchaikovsky could be used, including selections from "Sleeping Beauty". The Disney production of "Sleeping Beauty" used Tchaikovsky's music almost exclusively for that movie's soundtrack (as I recall).
Selections from Grieg's "Peer Gynt" suites could be used, such as "Ase's Death" and "Hall of the Mountain King" could be used.
You might also try some of Mussorgsky's music. One suggestion would be his "Night on Bald Mountain". Others would include "Catacombs" and "Hut on Foul's Legs" from "Pictures at an Exhibition".
Holst's "Planets Suite" has some fairly haunting music for "Neptune: The Mystic", but "Uranus: The Magician" and "Saturn: The Bringer of Old Age" may also lend themselves.
One with a theme you're sure to recognize would be the "Marche Funebre" movement (the third, if I'm not mistaken) of Chopin's Piano Sonata No. 2 in Bb minor.
I might be able to come up with more if I think about it, but I think this should give you a nice start.

The lyrics for this video could do well with Robotech and Macross saga's. But I agree that it's not creepy.fart wrote:are you familiar with the song "In The Year 2525"? That song is the creepiest, scariest song I know.

Another classical piece (that I've wanted to use, but just can't decide what to do with) would be Camille Saint-Saens "Danse Macabre." One of my earlist memories was seeing a cartoon set to this song with skeletons dancing around, playing themselves as instuments for the xylophone solos. Very creepy to me, as a kid.
Life's short.

Yeah that would be cool - I remember that song. Something about a shadowy fiddler who goes out into the graveyard and calls out the dead to dance. The song ends with the crowing of the rooster. However the cartoon was pretty weak, lots of stills, practically a slide show. An anime version would be cool! Any ideas for animes anyone? I wouldn't know where to get an mp3 of it..Sousaphonist wrote:Another classical piece (that I've wanted to use, but just can't decide what to do with) would be Camille Saint-Saens "Danse Macabre." "Haunted" by Sinisstar.
WAY better than Evanescence's "Haunted".
Oh yeah, "Doll's Polyphony" off the Akira OST. That was a pretty creepy track.
In fact the whole Akira OST is full of good creepy music. Even the music of Akira kicks unprecedented ass.
Also, some good music on the Hellsing OSts.
Esp. the next episode preview music.(it's on OST #2 Ruins, something like track 22 or 23) It starts off like kiddy music, but then breaks down into this freaky laughter and "dark" sounds.
