You're focusing too much on the technical aspect of videos and placing them on top of the main priority: the creativity and conceptualization (real word?) of video ideas.

In other words, it's not that big of a deal. :P

I think it can be a pretty big deal. The poor quality can be distracting - sometimes it can wreck the video. It depends what the problem is, if it's just an occasional image breakup it isn't normally a problem, but some videos are just a pixellated mess. I can forgive older videos where they had to be made using VHS footage, but in these days of DVDs and good quality codecs it's unforgivable. Heck, you can even get decent results from fansubs with a little effort! If I see a new video with crappy video quality my first impression is that the creator's been lazy and I'm inclined to stop it and delete it.

That said, I don't think a "minimum standard" could work. It's too subjective, the only way it could work is for poor quality videos to be reported to the site admins who would then have to watch it and decide if it should be deleted (I'm sure they'd love that!) The only way to combat low-quality videos is to leave constructive ops and hope the creators take note :?

I lost it a bit ago. I haven't been able to get ahold of it since. Too bad. I kinda liked it, personally. The quality was really bad, but when I looked beyond the horrid amount of pixellation, I found I rather enjoyed it.
I think I've got it... unless I deleted it. I don't remember it really striking me, but maybe that's because I hadn't seen any Tenchi (still haven't, except for the manga), and so since I didn't know who anyone was, it seemed kinda slow and boring. I'll look when I get back to my own comp...

Most of it was blurry around the edges that it felt like looking through a fog. One or two points were just 100-150 blocks on the screen. Crap-ass quality. I knew what each scene was because I've seen the movie a couple times, but it was still crap-ass quality.

And yet... the video focused on the developing relationship between Achika and Noboyuki, how they met, the attack of Kain, the birth of their son, Tenchi. Despite the crappy-as-shit quality, it was a nicely constructed video.

I have that one. :) It is an interesting amv even with the crapy video. :) Download it at, http://animenashville.org/projects/vide ... police.mpg

Poor video detracts from the overall experience but doesn't really reflect on the editors creativity and vision. I didn't know of these guides when I made my amvs so I'm sure I could have done better, but I still think my ideas worked out well overall. (shameless ego tripping)
Where did you say I'm going?.... And what am I doing in a handbasket?

then...don't watch it. we've already said it once...we've said it twice...how many times have we said it now? if its so distracting stop watching. you control your hands and your eyes.

and as pwolf said...the quality of the video doesn't matter on this site.

Nobody is forcing you to watch those videas, and they are VERY easy to spot by the low megabyte size.

It's not like everyone in the world wants an 85 megabyte MPEG. You can always just create a 10 megabyte mpeg with some pixels in it.

If your watching videos only for quality and not for the substance, you shouldn't even be on the .org. :?
